hi,
have a friend assist you measuring the output voltages of the
power supply
have it noted:
a) when you plug the unit
b) when the unit is on
c) when the unit is turning off
might also be better wiring 2 insulated wires, if only possible
on the capacitors that have 160V rating, secondary side of the
power supply.
please unplug the unit when doing solder work.
try also to check for cold solder on the flyback pins,
resolder it to be sure, use a good quality soldering lead.
hope this helps initially, thanks for using Fixya!

- hi, again
you have mentioned:
"I removed and inspected the power supply board and resoldered a bunch of questionable joints, but it didn't make much difference."
we will focus our attention first on the power supply board you are talking., and that part is i'm
pertaining about. measuring the output voltages.
the TV have vertical and horizontal deflection circuits.
the convergence IC you are asking about works only when horizontal deflection circuits is
running.,
without the necessary voltages on the horizontal deflection circuits your convergence circuits
will not work.

- the problem of your TV is on the ABL circuits on the deflection board
ABL - automatic brightness limiter
it might just be a resistor coming fro the B+ , which is feed to the ABL circuit of the flyback
these resistor might have change value.

- these can be best explained and pointed if you have the service manual you might get it with a fee., been trying to look for free one , but still unlucky
