My pc (Acer M3100) connects to my modem (Westell 6100) without any problem using the USB port connection, however when I disconnect the USB port and try to connect to my modem using the the ethernet connection, the computer does not recognize the modem. Can you give any help?

The modem is a bell modem. The ethernet port if for a LAN connection only.
