I have the same problem. Just a few days ago, when I turned on the TV it was clicking and then I got the dreaded 5 red flashes. Philips can't (or won't) tell me what that means.
Does anyone have a fix for that? Please email me or post here.

My Philips 30PW8420/37 is approximately 2 years old and it died while watching a movie Saturday night. It will power on, you can hear the high voltage come up, hear sound for about 2 seconds, then it will power down. You never see any raster on the screen. I'm getting an error code on the LED next to the power button that repeats over and over. One long flash, two short flashes, then three short flashes, and then it will repeat. I have unplugged the set for an hour, two hours, and 24 hours and it doesn't change anything. I called Philips support and all they did was tell me to plug it into a different power outlet, then gave me a phone number for a local service center. I had a year or radio and TV repair in high school and have worked with electronics since 1974, so I am capable of replacing parts if needed. Any ideas for a fix or what the LED code indicates?

one blink, then three. Seems like everyone here is reporting the problem, but no good solutions out there.

Hello to all unhappy philips owners, i also have this so called "black sceen" issue.

My 2 year old 42" philips plasma #42PF9431D/37 decided one night to just up and die. From the way it all went down and the reports ive been reading its a blown fuse or mother board. I've tried upgrading the firmware with no success.

Brief back story, TV is a little over 2 years old and has had basic use over that time i.e. a couple hours here and there over the week with some sprinkled bits of videogaming. But always taken care of as i value things.

The shakedown, Its started with all of a sudden a red fuzz covering the entire screen, i changed channels to see if it was a cable box issue. No success, so i turned the TV off and waited a couple seconds. Then back on, picture was fine. 5 min later, red fuzz is back. I turn the TV off and wait 5 min. Turn it back on to find the picture is fine, 5-10 mins pass and again the red fuzz. I decided at that point to leave it off for 24 hours unplugged. After 24hours I turned the TV back on and found a beautiful crisp error free picture. 10 min pass and BOOOOM...BLACK SCREEN but still had sound.

Its been a week of searching sites, blogs, cold calls to repair shops and im finding lots of the same problem and few solutions. Im wondering if anyone has any info on repair cost, options, recalls or any other head way made on this issue as we all seem to read Philips dosent give a **** about its customers and the quality of thier products. I apologize for the harsh words, but come on... these units cost you 1/3 to make maybe less x (?) sold at retial and you cant conduct proper product testing or at least reach out to a huge customer base that has the exact same issue.

Sounds like more CORP. biz, thanks guys...keep building **** to be dumped in a landfill instead of doing your children and their children the favor of building a quality product that can last thus creating a stong customer and enviromental base. But of course that would mean your private jet might not be upgraded every year, just every other but on the flip side polar bears might not just be a bed time to your grand child.

Dont mean to preach, just asking for people to be aware and care a little more.

saddend by the "built to fail" act

The TV is in some kind of protection mode, the blinking LED show you an error code.
Try pressing 062596 and then press menu button (do these in quick motion, don't let them to time out while keying)...see what happens
Well I think that if you would have a service manual for this set that would help a lot, I can send it to anyone who wants it via email/gmail. Let me know if anyone want one.

I also heard that this problem appeared with some people because the of the burnt fuse in the TV. To fix that it has to be taken to the tech shop. PHILIPS HDTV 30PW8420/37 - mecry.gif

And yes I also heard about this issue many times, seems like this TV set is very popular with this kind of problem.

Philips HDTV with back light will not turn on unless you plug and unplug it several times? What's wrong?

I have the a Philips Ambilight TV too. The power supply has two capacitors that may be going bad. Check the pic here...
In the Samsung power supply on the Philips TV, this part is known to fail and needs to be serviced or replaced. If you can do simple soldering work, you can replace these for less than $20 (for parts and shipping).

Every morning especialy when it is cold the my philips plasma tv has difficulty turning on but i dont get that problem when it is not cold., meaning the temperature is not cold. is this a problem or is...

It sounds like you have a power supply board that is failing. When components like capacitors are weak they work better as they warm up. They eventually get too weak and wont warm up.
