You might have to go to Toshiba support and get a BIOS Flash to update for your BIOS. Win XP is no longer supported, therefore you may need to go to Windows 10.

upgrading bios is dangerous.. in not complate or accedentaly restart. system will not work...

I found a BIOS upgrade download for the Toshiba Satellite Pro 480 on Toshiba's website under the archived old models listing. I downloaded it on a different machine and saved it to a USB which I then used to copy to the problem laptop and ran it there.

hey that problem is very generic, it could come from: virus, bad drivers, bad hardware, ANY, bad software... so without precise information on what you are using and doing I cannot do much.

For now I tell you the following:

the videodriver might be the problem
and the sounddriver too... to begin you should reinstall all drivers that you can find at toshiba.com... just get the latest and install them. Get the latest bios too and the bios upgrade tool, do not try to upgrade bios if you do not have that toshiba tool.

If that does not help, either you have a windows problems or a hardware problem, in those cases... I would need more information to help you.

You might try this- After you turn power on, hit escape right away, then hit F1. That may get you to your bios screen.
