This would appear to fix the problem but I believe that the cost for a print head here in the UK would be too high and merit purchasing another printer. I do have some idea now of how to fix this and I will let you know if I am successful

    Thanks for your worthy advice

Thank you very much for this advice. I did a reduced exercise, removibg the two screws, and lifting the block with the cables attached, I could see 5 small nozzles into which i squirted a cartridge flush cleaned and dried everything and then re assembled.
I now get a message ERROR 6500 and cannot proceed beyond this. any suggestions please?

More very good aadvice thank you

  • pat milton Feb 10, 2008

Having removed the cartridges and the Print Head, I removed the two small prinhead screw and lifted the block which is attached by the ribbon cables. Finding 5 or 6 small ink nozzles I injected some flushing fluid into the holes, cleaned , dried and replaced everything. There was a small improvement so chancing my luck I repeated the exercise and now cannot get anything other than as error message ERROR 6500 . I then tried holding down the resume cancel and power buttons in sequence and arrived at a different messaage re test but am now stuck.I now feel that this is a software problem requiring pressing the buttons in the right order Have you any more suggestions please?/

Hi,

Did you try another yellow cartridge? It could very well be that the cartridge is a defect.

What should I do if the print-heads are blocked with dried ink?
If your cartridge has been sitting outside for more than a couple of days, it is very likely that your print-heads may be clogged.

    1. Step 1: Place the clogged nozzles in warm water and soak them until the dried ink begins to flow from the nozzle.
    2. Step 2: After a few minutes of letting the dried ink flow, remove the nozzles from the water and dry it with a soft tissue or cotton swab.
    3. Step 3: Reinstall the cartridge and run the print-head cleaning mechanism (described in your inkjet printer's manual).
    4. Step 4: If this does not work, repeat the procedure.
    5. Step 5: If your cartridge still does not print after repeating, uninstall the cartridge and place it on a soft tissue or cotton swab with rubbing alcohol in an upside down position. Let the cartridge sit on it overnight.
    6. Step 6: Reinstall the cartridge and run the print-head cleaning mechanism (described in your inkjet printer's manual).
    7. Step 7: If none of the procedures above works, then you did your best, unfortunately you will need to purchase a new cartridge because the print-head is probably clogged permanently and/or damaged.

Please Check if the info below complies also to your model (mp500).

    hardware error [6500]

The PCI bus error is detected by the ASIC.

    Solution:

(Replacement of listed parts, which are likely to be faulty)

    - Logic board ass'y (QM2-2745) *1

*1: Before replacement of the logic board ass'y, check the waste ink amount (by service test print or EEPROM information print). If the waste ink amount is 7% or more, also replace the ink sorber kit (QY5-0147) when replacing the logic board ass'y

F you are good at taking things apart and not destroying them, then the problem can usually be fixed easily.

Remove the ink carts.
on either side of the carrage there is a screw, remove both of them.

CAREFULLY slide out the silver bar those screws are holding. Be sure to note its orentation for putting the thing back in later.

also carefully remove the silver "fingers".

remove the black clip/cover on the right side of the carrage that covers the ribbon cables.

lift the head (you see 4 nipples in there-- that is the top of the head assembly)

gently pull out the ribbon cables.

on the bottom of the head is 2 screws, remove them

now the head will come into 4 parts. Nipples, Gasket, nozzle block, and a metal guard.

get some windex with amonia.

soak the parts for a day or 2.

blot dry, then let it set for atleast 2 days to be sure it is COMPLETELY dry.

reassemble, charge the ink, do the printers head cleaning, and boom. back in business.

this works 90% of the time.

Heads on inkjet printers block and sometimes even their electrics fail, most problems are previous use of inferior ink entering print head and ruining it, luckily canon print heads are easy replaced and just click out via the opening of the release handle on top of head, one does not clean print heads with much hope of success.

As a tec I'd advise you the fix for this is to replace the head with new, use only gen ink in new head

Using correct ink at all times is the method, if you have put foreign ink into the head, it will be blocked, the head is NOT fixed by screws or rails, it just clicks out once locking handle is released. The only proper fix is replace head, but if you want to spin the wheel and try your luck unclogging it, I have found that removing heads then letting soak in a container with windex, then running under hot water can at rare times do the job, but when you reinstall it, make sure it is dry, and run heaps of deep cleans to prime it with fresh(oem) ink but you could well be just wasting time(and ink) by not doing the repair properly!

Whats with the screw removal?, have you unclicked the lock and removed the head as pictured above?

Install the Print Head and Ink Tanks

Instructions to install the print head and ink tanks.

    1. Confirm that the printer is powered on and press the button (MP500) or manually pull open the paper output tray (MP600).

    2. Lift the scanning unit (printer cover) completely. (The print head will move to the replacement position.)

NOTE: When the scanning unit (printer cover) is opened more than ten minutes, the print head moves to the right side. If this occurs, close the scanning unit (printer cover), and open it again.

    3. Open the inner cover.

Follow the instructions below for Installing the Print Head and Installing the Ink Tanks.

    Installing the Print Head

    1. Raise the print head lock lever.

    2. Pull out the print head from its package, then remove the orange protective cap from it.

CAUTION: Do not touch the print head nozzles <1> , electrical contacts <2>, or ink supply ports <3>. Doing so may cause printing problems.

    3. Place the print head in the print head holder and lower the print head lock lever carefully until you hear a click.

    Installing the Ink Tanks

    1. Unpack the ink tank and pull the orange tape off completely in the direction of the arrow and remove the film.

Note: Tear the orange tape carefully along the dotted line. If the orange tape remains, printing problems may occur.

      <4> Tape is completely removed.

      <5> Tape remains.

    2. Remove the orange protective cap located on the bottom of the ink tank by twisting as shown in the diagram.

CAUTION: Do not touch the ink tank contact <6>. Doing so may cause printing problems. Do not squeeze the side of ink tanks as this may cause the ink to leak out. Do not reattach the protective cap once you have removed it.

    3. Insert ink tanks into the print head.

NOTE: Press the mark on the ink tank firmly until you hear a click.

Note : MP500 shown. MP600 lock lever is on right side.

    4. Ensure that all the ink tanks are installed properly and the ink tank lamps light red.

Note : MP500 shown. MP600 lock lever is on right side.

<7> The ink tanks are installed properly.

<8> The ink tanks are not installed properly.

NOTE: Click for Ink Tank Lamp indications.

    5. Close the inner cover and the scanning unit (printer cover).

CAUTION: When closing the scanning unit (printer cover), be careful not to jam fingers.

Memo: The next printing begins, the print head cleaning will begin automatically.

Hi there pat

i got a printer thats just like this. however, your problem requires that you must use the original cartridge ink which is directly compatible with your printer. As what youve said, you will still manage to print but not from the yellow cartridge. this may be due to a faulty identifier which is responsible for identifying if cartridge is correctly placed and still has ink it.What you need to do is check the printer head. many problems arise with blurry and smudged heads thus makes tons of problems with your printer.

Try to lift the scanning unit to see the printer head. (usually do this whenever we replace the cartridge ),be cautious though, try not to touch the nozzle and the ink contact because this also leads to printing problems and may require you to have this serviced. If you see anything that may hinder your printer operational like dirt, smudges, try cleaning it with a cotton buds. but be gentle though as the cotton buds may leave some of the fibers it has.

If none of this works for you and the problem still persists, you may have to bring this to a service center and have them check your printer.

thanks for reading and hope that this helps. :)

Hi,

Try this first:

Turn on your MP110.
After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan.
It will enter in Service Mode.
SERVICE MENU
NVRAM ACCESS
SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0
OK
Then turn it OFF and again ON and there it is, as good as new.

And if this still doesn't work then:

It appears that the internal print head ports were clogged with ink. Try removing the print head and washing it in alcohol- when I did this i had clumps of congealed ink coming out of the tiny ports. The print head has two small screws underneath that I also removed and cleaned the ports inside by use of a syringe and alcohol. After I put the print head back together, dried it and ran an auto alignment - it all seems good now.

Locate the STOP/RESET/RESUME button on your printer which is represented by a triangle within a circle on the body of your printer and is usually in red, white or black as pictured below. With the reset button located hold it down for at least five seconds and then release it.

I use 3rd party ink and why my color ink light up at my printer pixma mp 287

This will either be because your printer is having trouble recognising the cartridges or warning of low ink because the cartridges have been refilled. Connect a computer to the printer and it will hopefully give you more info.

If your printer cannot recognise the cartridges try wiping the contacts on the front of the cartridges and re-installing. If your printer still doesn't recognise the ink cartridges then sadly they will need replacing.

If it is just a low ink warning then carry on printing untill the printer thinks the cartridges are empty and prevents you from printing. You can them get around this message by pressing the stop/reset/resume button for 5 seconds and continue printing. More information on this can be found here: http://www.refreshcartridges.co.uk/igloo/the-infamous-canon-resumestopreset-button/

Hope this helps.

Error 5200 occured while printing. And the black catrige does not recognised

Error code 5200 represent print head or cartridge temperature exceed specified value. It may be caused by the following condition: ink empty or usage of refill ink.
Please check which cartridge indicated by this error and replace it with new one. For Canon Pixma iP2770, this problem frequently caused by an empty CL811. Please refer to Canon Pixma iP2770 Service Manual for details.

Canon MP520 cartridge swap and ink refill

Canon MP520 multifunctional device - deactivation of the ink level counter
1. You can do it only when the printer counter releases the warning message - "the ink cartridge is nearly empty" = yellow warning mark

7b49096.jpg

2. You have to do this procedure four times - for every cartridge one times
3. At the screen you will see three warning messages
- for the first one press "OK"
- for the second and third one press "Yes"
4. The fourth message tells you that you can do the ink level counter deactivation by pressing the "Stop/Reset" button (7) for more than 5 seconds. Do it.

Later you can see another type of warning message at the screen:
eac72ff.jpg

In this case you can not follow the previous procedure - there will not be any other warning messages.
Just follow the message on the screen and press the "OK" button (5) and you can print.
Unfortunately - I do not know for how long time it works.
71df964.jpg

You have to manualy check the ink level and refill (change) the cartridge before it is completely empty! You might brake your warranty!
When you insert the new original ink cartridge, the counter will work properly again.

RECOGNITION OF GENUINE CANON INK CARTRIDGE

I posted the original problem. Although the cartridge was genuine I had taken it out and reinserted it as I wasn't sure I had loaded it correctly the first time. Advice from my local retailer was that this was a mistake. Canon PIXMA printers no longer recognise a cartridge once it has been removed. Solution was another new cartridge which I shan't remove until it's empty. When this second cartidge is empty I shall try the first cartridge again as it is still full and unused. It has yet to print anything! Why Canon's helpdesk couldn't help is a mystery. I conclude that Canon's printer management systems are unfriendly to users. They are friendly only to Canon. I hope my experience will help others especially those considering buying a Canon printer. dudbob
