Question about HP Officejet 5610 All-In-One InkJet Printer
No scan options
Check whether the Digital Imaging Monitor is running .
If yes, good.
Now, please open HP Solution Center and setup the destination list .
Double click >> HP Solution Center >> settings >> scan settings and preferences >> scan to .. setup >>
Add all the entries from " available scan destinations " to "front panel destination list " >> click >> ok .
Now, try to scan from the front panel of the All-in-One .

I tried all the other solutions that were posted here, nothing worked.
Then I solved my own problem by a fluke
Here's what you do.
Go to All Programs.
Select Scanner and Camera Wizard (I don't know if everyone has this, I'm just telling you what worked for me).
Select the printer, then click OK.
Next follow the steps to scan your picture.
The button the printer still doesn't work, but at least I can scan now.

To resolve the issue, follow the solutions below in the order presented.
Solution one: Verify that the Digital Imaging Monitor is ready
The Digital Imaging Monitor must be running for the scan to feature to function. The Digital Imaging Monitor normally displays in the system tray in the bottom-right corner of the computer screen, which is next to the time. The Digital Imaging Monitor is ready when a check mark displays on the icon. This can take some time after startup to complete the initialization and for the check mark to display on the icon.
If the Digital Imaging Monitor displays in the system tray, proceed to Solution two - Populate the destination list .
If the Digital Imaging Monitor does not display in the system tray, complete the following steps for Windows 98, ME, and XP.

I can from HP solution center, but cannot scan directly from printer. Message says No scan options. Hp gives laundry list of solutions but none work ?

I don't think HP is crap - I think it is a problem with either MS Updates or Norton's 360 (in my case, anyway).
I tried something a bit different. I (again) uninstalled then reinstalled the software using the original CD but also allowed the update software option (the message said there IS no update). I left Norton's 360 on, contrary to the installing instructions. Once installed, I found the HP programme in the programme files and pinned the HP Solutions to the start menu (I was having problems starting the scanner automatically or even finding the HP scanning icon). Now when I press the scan button on the console, I still get the "no scan option" but am able to use all the scan options via the computer screen (ie. the HP Solutions panel). I've restarted the computer and checked that there are no other problems and so far, so good.

Call up the hp technical support at 1-800-474-6836 and your problem would be solved very easily.It definately helps as I am working with HP and HP is not that bad as people think it to be.Call us may be you will get me to help you i guarantee you a resolution to this problem.

I don't know ., hours of frustration .. trying to scan to computer and vice versa, and on a mac .. never a problem in 4 years. after reading all this stuff about hp problems and hours of solutions that don't work i am glad i didn't try all the solutions .. i barely understand the directions ... i think i will buy a new scanner and NOT an HP Product

The solutions on the site didn't work, but I was able to scan as suggested from the desktop. Not perfect solution, but good enough, after hours of trying to rectify.. Thanks all.

Hi, I had a similar problem with a 5590, the destinations list is empty.
The main issue is that there is no scan to setup.
I am wondering how such a product should rely on automatic detection with no way to manage if something in not working.

open control panel -> go to scanners and cameras -> start the hp officejet 5610xi -> then it should start enjoi :)

why wont it let me scan? it is saying that there are no scan options and i should refer to device documentation for trouble shooting. this has never happened before and ive scanned things many times.

SOURCE: scanning is not working
Open the solution center and click on settings. Take the pointer on scan settings and click on scan to setup.
A new destination list will open and take all the entries, one by one, to right, and click on update the device. If it is already on right, please take it to left and click on update the device and again take it to right and click on update the device.
Then restart the printer and the issue will be fixed.
