Hi...i also have this problem showed D:5E02, my suggestion is that turning on camera at the table (camera face on horizontal), don't put camera down/face to the floor when opening.

Thanks very much for this. It's been bugging me for ages!

Hi! I just discovered a solution to this seemingly common problem! Simply ensure your camera is facing lens upwards to the sky (it doesn't necessarily require light for this to work, I tried it under the desk!), and turn it on. It works every time, no funny business! Try it, I hope it works for you. The camera shop tod me it was a circuit problem which would cost $200 or more to fix, but no need, my camera is working again! :)

this does not make sense. I was ready to chuck this gadget that was bugging me every time I looked at it. I still want to know what the problem is.
There has to be a logical reason why this is happening and Olympus should know what it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know what buttons on back of camera are for.

Besides the auto-flash mode, you can select fill flash, flash off, self-timer, and nighttime-view with or without flash.
Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON until the desired indicator appears on the LCD PANEL.
c3015.gif Fill flash and flash off modes remain selected after you take the picture. To cancel the selection, press the mode-selection button or close and reopen the lens cover/flash to return to the auto-flash mode.
Fill flash
c3014.gif When bright light indoors or outdoors comes from behind the subject (backlighting), dark shadows (especially on faces) may occur. Use fill flash to lighten these shadows.
  1. Open the LENS COVER/FLASH to raise the flash and to turn the camera ON.
  2. Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON repeatedly until the FILL-FLASH INDICATOR appears on the LCD PANEL.
  3. Frame your subject within the VIEWFINDER EYEPIECE.
  4. Partially depress the SHUTTER BUTTON. When the FLASH/CAMERA-READY LAMP turns off and the fill-flash indicator on the LCD panel stops blinking, fully depress the shutter button to take the picture.
Flash off
c3013.gif When you do not want to use the flash, especially indoors where flash is prohibited, such as in theaters and museums, or when you want to take twilight scenes or distant subjects that are beyond the flash range, or capture the ambiance of existing light, use the flash-off feature. Use a tripod or place the camera on another firm support, and use high-speed film because the shutter speed in these situations will most likely be slow.
  1. Open the LENS COVER/FLASH to raise the flash and to turn the camera ON.
  2. Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON repeatedly until the FLASH-OFF INDICATOR appears on the LCD PANEL.
  3. Frame your subject within the VIEWFINDER EYEPIECE.
  4. Press the SHUTTER BUTTON to take the picture.
Self-timer with auto flash
c3016.gif Use this feature to include yourself in pictures.
  1. Use the TRIPOD SOCKET to attach the camera to a tripod or place it on another firm support.
  2. Open the LENS COVER/FLASH to raise the flash and to turn the camera ON.
  3. Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON repeatedly until the SELF-TIMER INDICATOR appears on the LCD PANEL.
  4. Frame your subject within the VIEWFINDER EYEPIECE.
  5. Press the SHUTTER BUTTON. The SELF-TIMER LAMP will glow and then blink during the last three seconds of countdown.
    • To cancel the self-timer selection before the shutter releases, close the flash.
    • The self-timer automatically turns off after the shutter releases.
Night-view with flash
c3012.gif In this mode, the camera balances the flash and existing light exposure so you can take beautiful pictures of people at sunset or at night. Use a tripod or place the camera on another firm support, and use high-speed film because the shutter speed at night will most likely be slow.
  1. Open the LENS COVER/FLASH to raise the flash and to turn the camera ON.
  2. Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON repeatedly until the NIGHTTIME-VIEW INDICATOR with flash appears on the LCD PANEL.
  3. Frame your picture in the VIEWFINDER EYEPIECE.
  4. Press and hold the SHUTTER BUTTON for 12 seconds without lifting your finger. Note: If you remove your finger from the shutter button before 12 seconds, the shutter will time out immediately.
  5. After 12 seconds, release the shutter button to take the picture.
Night-view without flas
c3011.gif In this mode, you can capture the natural existing light of city-night scenes or fireworks at night. Use a tripod or place the camera on another firm support, and use high-speed film because the shutter speed at night will most likely be slow.
  1. Open the LENS COVER/FLASH to raise the flash and to turn the camera ON.
  2. Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON repeatedly until the NIGHTTIME-VIEW INDICATOR without flash appears on the LCD PANEL.

Most likely the shutter "curtain" (a few pieces looking like sheet metal just behind the mirror, designed to protect the camera CCD from dust and damage due to too much light) is not opening. This will require servicing by Olympus, since you will have to take the camera apart to be able to reach this camera part. Unfortunately, this may be a pretty expensive repair.

I have a olympus D365. Please tell me how to turn off flash. Thank you

1 Open the lens barrier fully.
• The current flash setting is displayed on the monitor.
3 Press íagain to set the flash mode.
• Each time you press í, the flash mode changes in the following sequence:
“AUTO” – “ Red-eye reduction” – “ Fill-in flash” – “ Flash off”.
4 Press the shutter button halfway.
• When the flash fires, the orange lamp lights steady.
5 Press the shutter button fully to take the picture.
Flash off, ( it looks like a lightening strike with a line going through it) that will dissable the flash

kind regards

Shutter won't open when turned on. Screen is gray & alarm sounds

It sounds as if when the camera was dropped it impacted the image processing chip inside of the camera thus why the LCD screen appears gray in color. You may want to call Olympus and discuss repair options. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3.

IR-300 Olympus

I had what sounds like the same problem. The camera was dropped and the shutter was stuck open. Just kept showing error message.
As I felt I had nothing to lose I began tapping it on a soft book and the shutter started to appear. I then shut it just using the end of my finger. When I then turned the camera on again it opened and shut when turned off. It has worked fine ever since.
Seems a rather poor design.
Hope this helps. Very best regards Peat.

Outside shutter cover will not open

The only thing I can recommend is to manually push the cover open. But, it will probably stay that way, and not close.

the lens cover switch of your camera have a poor contact that why that message is appearing...you have no choice but to disassemble the camera for repairing or cleaning that switch....i suggest you have to go the service center now and don't try open your camera if you are not a technician cause you may damage the flexwire of the lcd monitor if you not properly remove the cover...

Black Lcd and pictures.

The problem you are experiencing is due to the shutter being stuck closed. Normally the shutter is kept open while you compose the image, and then when you push the button it closes and the CCD records what it was seeing at that moment. When the shutter is stuck the image is blocked from reaching the CCD at all times so you can see nothing. Unfortunately the shutter is a tiny delicate component buried deep within the lens assembly and is not accessible without complete disassembly. I would suggest finding a repair center to ship the camera to, or replacing the camera. I would definitely not _gently_ tap the camera on a hard surface to possibly dislodge a slightly stuck shutter blade. This could easily cause further damage to the camera. The shutter in the lens is stuck closed. You need to take the camera to a shop where they will replace the lens assembly.
