If you format your MP# player with Windows it may create a wrong file system. Try different file systems (FAT, FAT32, NTFS. Windows will recognize all of thembut maybe firmwareof player will not.

My tge sigmatel hb500 mp4 player displayed a message saying that my internal drive needed formatting, so i updated the firmware, and now it will not display anything but a white screen

Firmware updates are fairly iffy for the hb500, and you should have formatted (deleted everything on) the player, not updated the firmware.
If you can, connect the player to a windows PC via usb, then go to my computer and right click on the mp3 player. select "quick format" which will delete everything, and hopefully the fimware update will either work or be deleted. This is a long shot, I really don't expect it to work...

Frozen Brookstone tiny tunes Mp3 player

I had nearly the same problem. My black tinytunes locked up from static electricity. Even after resetting, it would would freeze up whenever I tried accesing any menu item.

The fix can be found on the Brookstone installation CD. It's a blue, 3-inch disc with "Brookstone" on it. Put it in your computer's CD ROM and it should autoinstall the SigmaTel Audio Player. You may get prompted during installation that some files on your computer are newer than those on the disc. Choose to keep the newer files if this happens.

After the install, connect your TinyTunes to the computer. If you can, copy any files from the player on to your PC as they will be erased in the next step.

Now look for the SigmaTel MSCN Audio Player folder in your program files. Click on "Firmware Download" within. A window will pop up showing the firmware versions. Tick the "Format Data Area" box, then select "Yes" when prompted. Now hit "Start" at the bottom of the box.

At this point, a couple of blue progress bars will run for about fifteen seconds as the firmware loads. When it's finished, hit "close".

You're TinyTunes is as good as new !

Peace.

After format unable to copy mp3 songs on it....

I had similar problems with mine. I tried updating the firmware, but that didn't help. What there is on the firmware 1.2 upgrade is an option to format the player. I used this option and the player is now functioning correctly

My BUSlink MP3-SK256 MP3 only show me the "hello" word and no more, that is all. How can I fix it?

Do the following to reset the firmware. Once the firmware is reset, everything should be back to normal.
1. Install the application from the mini disc that came with the MP3 player - which can also be downloaded from
http://www.driveway.com/piidz15711. Run the "Setup.exe" file.
2. After it's installed. Connect the MP3 player to your computer. Make sure there's no battery attached to the unit. Wait until it's fully connected, and then run the software ( Go to PROGRAMS and look for "SigmaTel MSCN Audio Player". Run the Firmware Download. The software will automatically search for the unit. )
3. Make sure the "Format Data Area" option is checked (Warning: all files are going to be erased). Hit the "Start" button. The firmware will be reset, and the MP3 player should be back to normal.

MP3 Player with SigmaTel MSCN chip

Hah hah.. You are about to track down firmware for it and flash it, right? Bad idea! Instead, put a hook end on the end of a safety pin, gently get into the earphone jack, and coax the contact springs back to where they seat well against the earphone plug..

BTW.. this fix works with real ipods too

You should have software called MSCN firmware something on your CD.

Install that and format the player with that software.
Make sure you select format DATA area
