  • niok Dec 07, 2007

i have tryed your all of the things above from changing ports to just using the game pad, as or the cdrom being shot i reallydon't think it is as it still plays games and when i put a dvd in it reconised it was a dvd (video) as its tells me in the bottom right hand corner, i still believe its my settings that have changed. so if anyone can think of why its doing this or give me a clue to what my settings should be, please help!

You may notice that some of your games play fine while
others do not. This is usually because some games are on DVD media and
some are on CD media. CD's are single layer media while DVD's are multi
layer media. This means it is easier to read a CD than it is to read a
DVD. The concept of a DVD is to have several semi transparent layers of
data. It is sort of like taking a few CD's stacking them together and
smooshing them into a single disc. To read the 2-4 layers of data you must
ignore the previous layers and pay attention to ones deeper in the disc.
Obviously this is a more complex task and more subject to read errors. My
description is not entirely accurate to keep the concepts easy to understand

For instance the double disk of Jet Set Radio Future and
Sega GT 2003 is a CD while Munch's Oddysee/Halo is on a DVD. Most often
you will notice the bottom of the media is one of two colors, gold DVD's and
Silver CD's. It is not 100% that gold=DVD and silver=CD so if you find
this rule of thumb to not be true in every case... that's life.

Hi there my xbox 360 will play dvds/cds but will not play games it just says play dvd when a game disc is inserted in the console can you please help me thanks mr shane arnell

Sounds like the Xbox 360's disk drive is starting to fail. Knocking on the top of the Xbox (when its on its side) while loading a game can sometimes get it to work, but its better to have your Xbox repaired or replace.

Xbox won't read my disk

try a music cd, movie dvd, game disc.

which ones do not work?

if it will not play just one type or only 1 game i woudl check the game itself. if it will not play say games or dvds but will play cds then your laser needs calibreation.

here is a link to explain this.

doign this on the xbox will void warranty if there is any but also requires special tools for proper disassembly soyou don't damage the case.

I have bought a Super slim external USB portable 24x CD-ROM for my Dell notebook. I can't get DVD's to play on it. The laptop recognises the removable device but there is no option to play the disc. Can...

CD ROM drive will play only 700 mb CD disks(normal CDs)...and not play DVD disks...u need DVD ROM drive to play DVDs....there is a big difference among both in it's function.
a DVD drive "may" play both DVDs and CDs....
a CD drive will "only" play CDs

this is a problem the microsoft has been working on ... remove any disc from the tray> unplug it from all power the plug it back in> open the disc tray .. leave it open for a little while like 10-15 seconds .. then put the game in and it should work .. if it does not however you have one of the defected disc trays and you'll need to get it repaired by microsoft .. i know its not what you want to hear but hey at least they will fix it free of charge =]

Me again still same problem dvd discs won't read properly?

You are trying to play dvd's? Then you will need the remote sensor plugged in to the box before it plays movies. IT's called a xbox dvd movie playback kit. Part # x08-25387
