Dimension 2400 Turns Itself Off

My 2400 turns itself off and trys to reboot itself, sometimes it works and other times I have to turn it off using the button. This can happen any time within the first hour of use or upto over four hours of being on. I only use this system for e-mail, internet and playing music through media player. I recently installed a new memory hoping this would cure the problem but no luck.

Re: Dimension 2400 Turns Itself Off

I think you might have a failing hard drive. if you go into the Boot menu by pressing F12 while it is booting up you will see an option named Hard Drive Diagnostic. This is what you want to run. If it returns an error code of 7 then the drive is most likely failing or failed.

This desktop dell vostro turns itself on and off without the button being pushed. sometimes it makes it to windows, and seems to run just fine, then it goes to shutdown by itself... then turns itself back...

Well in the system Bios or setup there are options where you can have the computer turn itself on automatically at a certain time. However, the fact that yours is turning itself on and off seems to indicate that it is either over heating or it is running into an issue when trying to boot and it keeps recycling the boot process. There is an option that you can set that will turn off automatic restart on boot. Turn off the computer and then turn it on and start hitting F8 repeatedly until you see Safe Mode as an option. Scroll down through the options and you will probably see an option that lets you stop automatic restart on boot, and take it if it is there. This will allow you to actually see the error message that is causing your computer to reboot itself.

Power supply turns itself off

could be another part in the computer shutting it off. Try unplugging all your drives and then put them in one at a time and reboot every time to see if it still shuts off.

Dell dimension 2400 blue screen fault - page fault in non paged area. bug code 50. did system restore and changed memory board still faulty jim brand

Most likely the computer itself, the mother board in the Dells aren't very good. I would suggest the next time you buy a computer you should get a Mac. You'll have no problems at all, and you'll find that Microsoft Office for Mac runs far better too.

Desktop screen won't stay on

how old is your screen, if its older than 2-3 years mostly its gone and you need to replace it. If its in warranty then contact dell customer support. Life of screen can be around 3 years after that i may not work.
Another test is to connect it to some other computer and see if its working, then we can focus on some output issue from the CPU.

I bought 1 GB of Ram ddr 400 for my dell dimension 2400

it might be not compatible.
Do you have the older memory inserted? If yes is it the same speed as the new one you bought?
Is your laptop front side bus capable of a speed of 400 Mhz?
Try to remove the old Ram and use the new one only!

Dell 2400 ram upgrade problem

RAM can be finicky so first test all memory slots with a known good stick (your 512MB). Make sure you're starting from a complete power down and you get a POST beep (hopefully your system is set up to beep when it powers on) and everything loads up all the way through to your OS.

Once you do that with all your memory slots test with the new stick by itself in all memory slots. If neither of the memory slots work with the new stick but you verify that it works in another system you should then check your BIOS settings and RAM timings to ensure compatibility with your stick. If you can't find the timing on the RAM stick itself, look up the manufacturer's part number for the information.

Good luck!
