Onkyo HT R550 sound going in and out

My Onkyo HT R550 home theatre receiver has been cutting in and out with the sound only after being on for a few minutes, (as if it were the sound were being paused/unpaused). I have had this model for about 3 months now, and this problem has just shown up within the past week. Any help or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Similar problem . my sound was working fine and then suddenly cut out completely like the amp circuit was switched off. Everything else works fine. Can't get sound from "A"."B" or subwoofer. HEEELLLPPP

I have the same problem as well. No sound on a brand new unit. Took it in to an Onkyo service centre to get it fixed and they changed a whole bunch of stuff on it including the power supply, even though the unit powered on just fine.
One week later the friggin' thing stops working again!
Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Most people seem to be very satisfied with this unit. Maybe they made a batch of lemons?.

I have a similar issue. The unit will turn on fine, provide video, "show" that is is getting an audio signal such as DD, PCM, Stereo, but no audio from anywhere between right away to hours later on any input. I can just turn it on and walk away and eventually something will happen and sound comes on. Once audio is working, it doesn't stop until I power the unit off and do it again another day. I have had it in 4 times, including sending it to Onkyo themselve, but they have been unable to reproduce it and say it must be how I am hooking things up or the Motorola cable box I am using (BS!, plus I have 2 other Onkyo receivers, the 304 and 777 and am a Computer Engineer). This has been going on since March 2008. I have given up and bought a Yamaha V363 instead. Good luck.

I have the same unit. It worked great for about the first year, with a few minor hiccups where the sound cut out. Then, one day, nothing. Even after an hour or so I get no sound from any input. The unit clicks when I power it on and change inputs or speakers. Haven't gotten to the service center quite yet.

If your Kenwood super woofer is powered, look for an RCA subwoofer connector on the rear panel of your Onkyo and use that.

No real PROBLEM - I saw a HT-57300 at a friends and would like to get info - specs on this unit -- I WANT to buy one

I think you mean the model HT-S7300 by Onkyo. Here's information about it at, and here's a link to the owner's manual at Onkyo.

I bought an onkyo hts-5300 it has grave reviews for sound. Yet it is not producing what i feel it should, what is the ideal db setting for the speakers for crisp sound and deep theatre style bass

"Grave" reviews??

If you set it up as specified in the manual it will be optimized. As far as volume settings while listening go, that is subjective and entirely up to you, your speakers and your neighors.

I have an Onkyo HT R550 hooked up to my blue ray via an optical audio cable, the question is why wont it do 7.1 at all it is a full onkyo 7.1 system

The limitation could be in either end. The player may not be set up to transmit the full 7.1 bitstream or the Onkyo may not be set up to play it (7.1 speakers defined, digital input assigned, calibration completed etc.)

You'll find all that in the manuals.

I have an Onkyo HT-S6100 home theater not sending picture to TV.

I just fixed mine with the same problem. Apparently, the HT-R667 and 606 receiver that comes with 6100 has a problem with the HDMI board. Onkyo wanted $500 dollars to fix it, costed me $16. Here's how to fix it.

No sound with ps3, connected to a 7.1 av receiver & projection tv

Hi...the HT-R800 Home Theater system has the HT-R550 receiver which could only carry Video via HDMI. you would need to connect a separate audio cale(Optical Audio Cable) to be able to get audio out of the PS3 to the receiver. Once you have hooked up an Optical Audio Cable you would need to go in the PS3 setup and putin Bitstream and Optical in the Audio Setup menu.
