Question about Garmin StreetPilot i3 GPS Receiver

My home is Australia...Starts looking in Taiwan

Cannot get my new unit to start from my home and navigate elsewhere. Home according to the Street Pilot is 6000 odd km away. How do I get it to look for a sattelite here. Have logged on and am being sent a disk for Aus in a few days.

How to backup tomtom

Back to support home page The easiest way to make a backup of all the contents of your TomTom device is by using TomTom HOME. You can make one backup per device and store it on your computer. When you make a new backup, the old backup for that device is overwritten.
Tip: We recommend setting HOME to back up automatically before installing new content. [ more... ]

  1. Connect your navigation device to your computer and switch it on.
    TomTom HOME starts automatically.

If TomTom HOME does not start, do one of the following:
    • Windows 8:
Right-click on the Start screen and click All apps. Then scroll through the list of applications until you see TomTom HOME. Double click to open the program.
    • Older versions of Windows:
Click Start > All Programs > TomTom > TomTom HOME.
    • Mac:
Click Go in the Finder menu and choose Applications, then double-click TomTom HOME.
Click Back up and restore in the HOME menu.
  2. Click Back up my device and then click Back up now in the bottom right corner.
    HOME backs up your device.
  3. Wait until HOME has finished creating the backup.
    Then click Done.
To see where HOME saves your backups do one of the following:
  • Windows: Click Tools > TomTom HOME Preferences and then select the Folder Preferences tab.
  • Mac: Click TomTom HOME > Preferences... and then select the Folder Preferences tab.

To restore a backup, click Back up and restore in the HOME menu and then click Restore my device.

Xl340s will not speak street names , street names on key board will not take sometimes. new unit out of box

You need to use a "Computer" Voice I believe Susan is the female option and Richard is the male option. Only the computer voices can read street names.

Please tell give me detailed instrucions on how to upgrade my Tomtom Navigation system. I bought it on the 7yh April 2007.

Ok, here we go:
1: Do a completly backup via win explorer or similar.
Copy entire content of unit to a folder on your computer.
Remember to set win explorer to show system/hidden files.
2: Make an account here for free:
3: Download and install TomTom Home:
4: Connect unit to PC, TT Home starts up. If TT Home doesn't start, start it up manually.
5: When unit tells you to, tap Connect to computer
6: Log on with info from account creation, step 2.
7: Push Update my device from within TT Home.
8: DO NOT disconnect the unit while updating.

When updating is finished, disconnect unit.
The unit will then reboot, and you are done...

You can get one free map update if a new map is avaible within 30 days from when you first started to use the unit. This is done through TT Home...

Good luck.
More questions, don't hesitate to post them here.

Freezes at street name screen

Yes - bin the Magellan - I have a Roadmate 700 and just bought the updates but to get cameras loaded is a major hassle and Mag Support just do not respond... what a waste of money my Magellan has been, cost over £800!

Am now buying a Tomtom 720T with cameras preloaded - it does an auto update each time yu sit the unit in a cradle attached to your PC.
