Re: phoblem with 524-up
All wireless router manfacturers do not set their devices to the same gateway address so the 192.168.0.1 may not be accurate for your router. Can you identify the router's manufacturer and model number? Without that assuming you are on a windows computer you can open either a DOS Prompt or Command Prompt depending on the version of windows you are running. From that window issue the command ipconfig (it may require some operands and there may be multiple connections appear). Generally look for a connection probably with an IP address beginning 192.168.?.? and record the default gateway also probably a 192.168.?.? address. This may then be utilized like your friend to access the configuration for your wireless router. You may require an url like https://192.168.?.? or http://192.168.?.? where ?.? is from the default gateway address above. In addition you will probably require a UserID and Password that if unchanged can be gotten from the manufacturer's documentation or possibly reset using the manufacturers documentation if it was changed and is unknown. The manufacturer and model information along with the information for the wireless network adapters accessing router will be necessary to find a suitable security scheme to "lock" this device for secured access. Besides encryption schemes routers sometimes support using MAC addresses from your specific network cards to limit devices they will communicate with. These decisions need to be made after the additional information is identified.

first of all, I take it your getting to the login page? if not I will explain how to do that after this. If your on the page, the default username is admin and a blank password or username is user and no password. If these dont work then the defaults must have been changed at some point. To sort this you will need to reset the router, use the defaults and set it all up again.
If you cant get to the router page at all then what you need to do is connect to the router with a cable, wait til your computer gets a connection and go to control panel->network connections (XP) or control panel->network and sharing centre->advanced network settings (vista/7) then right click on the connected adapter and select "status" in the next box which appears select details and you will get a window which shows all of the settings of the network connection. The one you are looking for is the default gateway (it should be something like 192.168.0.1) If the area is blank then you are not getting an ip address from your router so a reset may be your best route) Open up your internet browser and type this address into the address bar (not the search box) and press enter, you should be presented with your routers webpage.
Use the following steps to reset the router to factory defaults;
- Press the reset button for 10 seconds. You can use a small object, such as a paper clip to hold down the button.
- Do not unplug or power off the unit while the router is being reset. - The unit should now reboot, and once the WLAN light stops blinking the router should be reset. - Open your Web browser and enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. - For the login, enter admin as the username and leave the password blank.
- Check physical connection (Modem=WAN Port, Computer=Port1) *should be hard wired connected* - Power cycle modem and router for 2 minutes (to turn off the modem and router) - Check web browser for Internet connectivity
* If nothing happen reset the router for 15 seconds and try the steps again.
Of course you've clicked "refresh" wireless network list? Go to the working computer and in a DOS box type IPCONFIG /ALL to find the gateway address for the router. ( Or refer to your wireless connection utility ). I will probably be 192.168.0.1 for example. In your browser address line put HTTP://192.168.0.1 and click the arrow. You should be talking to the router now, default id and/or password is typically ADMIN. Go to wireless settings and make sure SSID broadcast is turned on. Also note the SSID name, encryption type ( WEP, WPA, etc ) and note the key, if any. You now have enough information to connect the second computer. Yeah, this is complicated. If it's more than you want to know best get a friend to help you, though I may be able to answer specific questions once you get into it.
the default ipaddress for that is 192.168.0.1 you will need to set your computer with a ip address like 192.168.0.2 then you should be able to access it. be sure to change your computer back to DHCP after you reset the router
If you got it from a friend, the first thing you should do is take a paper clip, and look in the back of the router for a little hole labelled "Reset". This will reset the router to the default settings. With the unit on, press this button for about 10 seconds. After this, hook up the router, by ethernet connection to your pc. Once the connection is made to your pc, and the router is on, go to http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.1.1/ depending on the exact model. It will ask you for a username/password. The user name is "admin", and there is no password. From there, you are in the router configuration. Click "Wireless" on the left of the page to edit your wireless configuration. Click apply when you have everything set to your liking, and you're done!
