IOMEGA PRESTIGE 2.0 1tb HD is no longer recognized - vista

it seems like a problem that most people have... one day its fine the next day its not recognized. My unit is not even a year old. It was working fine, I clicked "saftly remove" it said ok and I removed it. When I plugged it back in... it doesnt show up in My Computer list.
So i tryed it on my laptop and its not recognized on it either. I fires up like normal, sounds like its spinning fine, the light is on... nothing happens.
Is there any help? Is my info gone or destroyed because of this?
