Question about Refrigerators
I have a GE side by side refrigerator for over 2 years now. Recently I noticed that water is leaking from the freezer side and ice in building up in the freezer.
Could you advise me as to how to resolve this problem.
It sounds like the drainage for the defrost water is plugged or obstructed somehow. The ice build up is left over water that is freezing due to the fact that it has not been channeled out properly and when the cycle comes back on it freezes.
look for the collection pan underneath the fridge, access the tube ending to there, blow some air through it. Compressed works best if you have access to some. Also I would advise doing this after the unit has been off for a short while, sometimes the plug will be frozen, so give it time to melt just in case. When you blow on the tube there should be no back pressure, this will tell you if the plug has been removed.

Behind the bottom shelve is a fixture with the bottom light bulb and the bottom went. On each side of this fixture are rubber drains which connect to the drain on a 90 degree angle. This drain is under the a.m. fixture. The drains are cut in 45 degree angle in order to fit each other. The problem is where the the connecting ends i.e. the vertical drain and the horisontal drains meet are not glued together. i notiched however the clever people at GE know about this problem and solve it with a "TAPE". You either have to buy a rubber glue or tape it yourself.
Hope this will help.
