Not the lamp!

I having a problem with my tv not turning on. I have a toshiba 62hmx84 cinema series, not even three years old! I replaced the lamp five months ago and everything was working fine until a few weeks ago. I thought it was the lamp again because I was getting the same blinking lights and was having the same indications like I did the first time. So I replaced the lamp and still got no picture. Is there a next step I can go to or part to replace before I call a service guy? Sometime it turns on and sometimes it doesn't. Any suggestions would be helpful........Thanks.

Re: not the lamp!

I would concure with tvtek on this one. See if you can see a kind of spark or ignition flash on your ballast module. It looks like sort of fuse the diamiter of a pencil and maybe 1/2 inch in length.

Re: not the lamp!

The ballast is available by its own and the part number is 23122468. There also could be a defective saftey swich or possibly a fan has stopped working or not giving the possible feedback that it is rotating. I would have a technician look at it but at least you know the ballast is availble on its own.

Re: not the lamp!

If the lamp did not cure your problem you have a defective optical block. This includes the ballust for the lamp. On Toshiba sets the the ballust comes with the optical block and connot be purchased seperately. Prices vary acroos the country and from shp to shop but you are likely going to spend about $800 to repair this.

I heard a pop on the Toshiba rear projection TV (model #62hmx84) and immediately lost the picture

Sir the problem of your unit is the lamp try to replace it it is much better to use a gloves and wash your hand after replacing the lamp because this lamp contains mercury. follow this steps.
1. Unplug the unit to main ac outlet. Remove the bulb housing cover from the back of the TV. Using a screwdriver, carefully remove the cover to reveal the old bulb. Using a cloth, remove the bulb from the TV by first unplugging it from the wiring harness. Carefully rock the harness back and forth until it comes free from the bulb. Push in the bulb slightly and turn it a quarter-turn to remove it from the bulb housing.
2. Install the new bulb. Do not touch the new bulb with your fingers, as any grease or fingerprint from your hands will damage the tiny mirrors in the bulb. Instead, carefully handle the bulb using the cloth. Insert it into the bulb housing and secure the door. Test the unit. Plug in and turn on your Toshiba TV and make sure that the new bulb is installed properly and that the image looks crisp.

Reset the lamp time counter. Each Toshiba TV comes with a lamp hour meter stored in its software. If you do not reset the lamp timer, the unit may stop operating when it gets to a certain time (refer to your manual because each Toshiba TV is slightly different). To reset your Toshiba lamp timer, turn off the TV, wait 10 seconds, hold down the "on," "menu" and "input" buttons on the remote at the same time, and turn the power back on. A yellow light should appear in the bottom corner of the TV indicating that the lamp timer has been reset.
Hope this help good day and best regards.

No picture, starts normally then shuts off. blue light stays on. replaced lamp, and still the same problem. toshiba 62hm196

If a tv turns off after being turned on It is enambling the safe mode to prevent greater damage. It has probably got a bas chip or sync switch on the power board.

Toshiba TP50H95 TV Won't turn on - Pete

You will need to trouble shoot the start up and shutdown circuits. Often this is a minor component failing causing the set to not power up or go into protective shutdown. Do you have the service manual for this TV?

Bad lamp?

If you have the owners manual look on page 64 and see what it says there about the light lighting up in the front of the unit. if you do not have the owners manual, you can get one for free here:
