Thanks I appreiate your help, but I dont have 5 screws! I had two which allowed me to take the top cover off the base of the hoover, which I had already done, and then no screws in sight.

However, I exmined it yet again after reading your reply, and found some 'give' in the roller, so I could just ease out one end to put the band round. Not so easy getting it back, and no way of putting it all back together as it was before. However, it may look a complete mess, but it is working!!

Hoover Windtunnel model U6485200B troubleshooting brush not spinning

Hi! The brush-roll feature needs to be engaged for the belt to tighten, so when checking the belt it will appear to be loose. Be sure you have replaced both belts on the vacuum with genuine Hoover parts. This unit takes belt 38528034 and 38528035. Also, make sure the vacuum is on carpet mode. Follow the link to view the instruction manual which provides instructions and illustrations on changing the belt to be sure it is assembled properly.

Hope this helps!

I'm not familiar with this model number that you have given. Is your vacuum a Hoover model? If so you can get any Hoover belt here:

Change belt on a hoover tempo

Remove the cover that covers the roller brush, (four screws) and remove
the roller brush and replace belt, it goes between the motor shaft and the roller brush. Replace the cover and that should do it.

Replace the skinny belt, but here's the kicker. turn the belt inside out so that the writing is on the inside and sits against everything. Thats what I did and I have used it once and it worked well, Lets hope it'll keep working.

Hoover wind tunnel upright self propelled. U6473-900. Brush does not work. Heard it was a 'brush controller' problem and can be fixed. Please tell me how.

Most likely the flat belt has stretched enough so as to not turn the pulley that in turn turns the brush roll using a V belt. Also there is a small idler wheel, if hook up, then it won't engage the V belt.
