It sounds like you have Vista but want to install Linux as a dual boot. Have you ever tried a live CD? A live CD is a CD you can download for free for just about every major distribution. You can run the live CD without installing linux to try it out on your system. If you like it, you can install it from the live CD onto whatever hard drive you wish. Most major linux's installs are graphical just like windows so you shouldn't have any problems. You can get a live CD from most major linuxs'. I recommend Ubuntu because that's what I use and I could help you with it once you got started. You can go to the site and download it and burn it as an ISO.

Recoverying the Vista

Well, I had the same exact stupid mistake, also on a Lenovo laptop, but a different model. Anyhow, Windows does not allow partitioning the drive which the OS is located on. It spoils the whole installation and damages the OS usually beyond repair.

I would advise you to do what I did- I tried to gracefully surpass the problem by restoring the windows but nothing happened. So, what I simply did was to format the whole computer and then divided the drive into C and D and installed Linux on one partition (all you need is about 10GB, and that's also a lot) and on the second partition I've installed the Windows OS. Good luck with that...

My lenovo onekey recovery not working?

Hi All,

I am new to to the community. I recently bought a lenovo G series machine( G550 model #298595Q preloaded with Windows vista and 320 GB HDD) . surprisingly The C: drive contained 254 GB of the total available 284 GB and D: drive had the remaining space. I wanted to inistall linux, I had to partition the C:drive and no where in the lenovo mannual it is warned against the resizing C:)

I used a partition software called "paragon" to resize my C: drive. My system hanged while running the process and after a long wait I had to shutdown my system and after that my OS was not loading. So I decided to recover my vista using one key recovery. I tried the back up I stored in D: drive and in DVD and it is giving an error message that "not enough space in the system" and in the one key recovery menu the target location of the one key recovery is showing to D: drive but my preloaded vista was installed in C: drive and also it is showing the total free space as 298 GB)

Could any one help me to get my vista back.( why the target location of one key recovery is showing to D:)
or is there any way to increase the D: partition from boot setup). Please help me.

and also my warranty is valid , since I touched my C: drive( no where it is warned against that)?

Audio devices for Lenovo Y500

The sound drivers for Vista does not work for XP.

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP device drivers for your model laptop,
Use this link :-
http://www.ibm.com/products/finder/us/finders?pg=ddfinder&cm_re=other-_-suprcn-_-download

After you download the driver file, click on this file and it will unzip/expand the drivers and copies these files to the hard drive in c:\drivers\... take a note of the folder it has created to store the driver files and then go to this folder and run the SETUP file to install the driver.

Install xp vista linux

If you're trying to install all three operating systems onto the same partition it's creating a conflict, more than likely between Vista and linux. XP and Vista are similar enough and recognize each other, putting them in the same partition is ok, but try setting up another partition to install the linux to. I'm curious as to why you want or need all three on the same machine?
