my green light is off focus, green line curves at th top and bottom.

  • aufanincinci May 11, 2010

I had the same problem. I replaced both convergence ICs, and still the same problem remains. When manually adjusting the color grid, I am unable to adjust the red grid, and can only adjust the green grid in the "y" direction. And when I turn the red grid off for adjustment, there is still a wavy red line on the top of the screen. I did notice that "RR402S" and "RR471S" look like they are both fried, but I assumed since they are SEMI variable resistors, they were part of the volume control circuit? Any help would be much appreciated, this sorry tv has got me at my wit's end.

Replace the convergence ap ICs. You need 2 of them about 10.00 each compared to 300 for a new module. I am enclosing a link where you can purchase the Cs get some heat sink compound while your there. Also they have a picture on the page i posted with what they look like just get th numbers off your and enter it in the search box. Its an easy repair if yo can solder.

If the tin can module you are referring to is the hyper module, it is common to replace all 11 caps because the factory caps ****. Check for bridged solder connections at STK's search the forum at electromaniacs for 50h81 :)

Curved red lies at top/bottom with some double vision in lines

This is from another fixya article but its relevant to your problem.

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos aroundimages.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Red Lines on Screen

Dave, HMMMM Dual pictures This is a problem that every projection TV runs into at least once or twice in its lifetime. Its the old convergence IC falure thingy. These IC's go bad and should be replace all at once. These are not consumer replaceable unless you have had training in the electronics or TV repair fields. Please call out a pro to assist you with this repair as A TV is not the place to experiment in because of the HI voltage and saftey issues. Good Luck
