LED channel selector

I need to find a replacement LED counter for my cobra 148GTL CB Radio. One of the digits only displays half of a digit. I seems like it's burned out. I think I can fix it my self but I just don't know where to find a replacement. Any help would greatly be appriciated.

I would first try re-soldering the pins on the back of the channel display pc board. I have found sometimes that a cold solder will give that same problem. I just fixed one yesterday like that. Other than that, you can get them from various places, even on eBay.

Channel selector , part of digit burned out!like on ch. 19 it looks like 13!!

The LED channel displays on these radios are replaced as a unit. Look on eBay for replacements. They are usually available quite cheap and are rather straight forward to replace.

Cobra 148GTL can't TX on USB

Its the cap that feeds the first transistor to the first of the finals. It is either shorted or burned out.

Or the audio IC. It could be putting just enough out on AM to seem like its working, and then not enough for side band.

look at the caps near the finals. Look for a burn one, or one that could be twisted, or shorted in any way.

Cobra 148GTL

Hello k007,

It sounds like you may have damaged the RF power amplifier stage of the CB. Since you were adjusting the antenna characteristics. Did you have a SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) meter connected while you were tuning the unit? If you did you might have noticed the needle go past the 1.2 mark when you were adjusting the antenna or the unit itself. In any event I think that the RF power Amp is shot.

Thank you,
Shuttle83
