Our Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washing maching agitates fine, but will not spin.
Comment by jk2000, posted on Dec 06, 2007 Thanks for the quick response, but I suspect it is something else. I already wired the lid switch to a closed circuit and the washer has worked fine for many months like this. Further testing showed that the motor is spinning -- I can feel the coupling spinning underneath -- but the tub did not spin. It's like something is not engaged in the brass housing (tranny?) on the other side of the coupling. BTW, I already checked that the coupling and all prongs are in great condition. Once during testing, the tub even spun briefly. But after reassembly, I could not get it to spin again. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Thanks, dr, for the reply. I looked under the agitator shroud and put it in spin. I could hear the motor running and the agitator shart moves back-and-forth a little (not really agitating). But the shaft does not turn. Thanks for the advice.

Machine catches water, but will not spin. It pumps out the water o.k.

The spin tub mounting block is probably stripped on the basket drive. Remove agitator. Now put machine into spin do you see shaft spinning but the tub isnt moving???

Sounds like the block is stripped to me. Remove spanner nut holding spin tub to basket drive. The aluminum block has two square indentions that sit down on two tabs formed on the basket drive shaft. The soft metal wears out on the block and the drive shaft isnt attached to the spin tub. Let me know what you find

really sounds like a coupler issue. May look fine but if one of the teeth are busted it will do this. You can get a tutorial for fixing this here. http://www.shop.washermd.com/category.sc?categoryId=4

Washer won't start spin cycle

sounds like a lid assy issue, can you hear a "clicking" just before the lid is closed, try opening nad closing a few times listening for a distinct "click" if not the machine doesnt think the door is closed and for safety reasons wont spin and drain.

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washing maching but will not spin.

lid switch is bad chance are you can by pass this by removing the timer header and crossing the outer wire on the lid switch that it mounted closest to the lid not the power cord this will tell you if you need a switch

Hotpoint washer

These older units had an insert in the agitator that would strip out.  Remove your agitator and take to a parts store. They should be able to help you out.
