Acer Aspire 4520, same problem as Scarecrow. Checked out the link to Microsoft's Hotfix that was provided by Country. Looks like a viable solution, but the only problem is my driver version ends in 25088; the Hotfix is for the version ending in 20634. Guess I'll keep checking back here for an update.

I had a similar problem where my memory card reader would not show up in explorer. I found the problem was linked to using a USB mouse. There seemed to be some sort of conflict. I did a bit more looking around and found a solution that worked for me here....

http://www.runpcrun.com/cant-install-usb

I basically browsed to c:\windows\inf (which is a hidden folder so you must unhide it in your folder options) right clicked usb.inf and selected install. Everything started working.

I had the same problem on my Acer Aspire 5630.
First I tried installing the drivers I downloaded from Acer's website for my computer (which in my case were called CardReader_ENE_3.00.00_Vistax86). I even restarted the computer as it told me to. But that didn't work.
Then I removed the drivers completely (and said Yes to Windows Vista's question about whether it should delete the drivers from disk).
Then I installed the drivers downloaded from Acer.
And now, even without having restarted the computer, it works! I can change SD cards, and Vista immediately responds to it.

Hello all. Good news. I installed Windows 7 on my Acer 5601, which originally came with XP, and the card reader stopped working. But I went to the Acer website and downloaded the XP driver... works like a charm! Pleasant surprise, since Acer doesn't seem to support upgraded operating systems. Hope this helps.

I have an Acer 4520 and my internal memory card reader would not read a regular SD 2 GB card and kept telling me it needed to be formatted, I did this numerous times, with the result being unable to format. The reader had no problems reading and writing to a 4GB Mini SD with adapter. I thought this was strange, so after doing a little research, I ended up going to Acer's site, where I found a driver for the reader, and installed it on my computer. I then went to Microsoft's site and found the Service Pack 1 for Vista and also installed it on my computer. After doing both of these things, the reader formatted without any problems. I then made the mistake of thinking the Service Pack did the trick, so I removed the driver from Acer, luckily for me, Vista recognized what I did and went online and found the software to make the reader work again. So I am assuming that for this particular Acer, getting the driver from Acer, and if you don't already have it, getting the Service Pack 1 for Vista, might help fix problems that are occurring with the internal memory card readers on the computer. Hope this helps someone.

Think it is a power issue, to many usb's eat all available power and the first item to get drained of power is the sd slot. my aspire 5600(5633) had the same problem all i did was unplug my external hard drive from usb and the sd card was recognized instantly. i would suggest removing usb items one at a time and see if this resolves the problem before messing about with drivers.
hope this helps you Scarecrow2 or anyone else.

Don't know why but Acer tend to have driver that may and may not work, then wants a fee for support. Check the driver version for SD controller in device manager. Then google to search for newer driver. Lot of times, I managed to find a driver that is updated to fix the bug for Vista.

If you have XP, search on Microsoft, they have a patch that will fix the SD card reader problems.

If your Acer Aspire will not read SDHC or you can't get it working with Windows 7 or 8, use this TI card reader driver install by Toshiba. Uninstall your existing driver, then downloa and instal this one. It works perfectly on my 9410z. This driver works for all the Acer TI card readers. http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/downloadDetail.jsp?soid=1713025&pf=true

I just used this hack on my Acer 5570z. Worked. Thanx!

×

Are the contacts on the card ok? Have you tried another card? Have you gone to START....COMPUTER...RIGHT CLICK MANAGER? is the device not being recognised on there? Is there debris inside the reader? Can you find away of clearing out anything which may be INSIDE the card reader?? Its always a possibility when you think of how many people take food and drink and sit at the computer and drop food over the keyboard and everywhere else. I've dropped a WHOLE cup of tea over my laptop...incase anyone reading this does the same......quick thinking...tip laptop upside down...immediately remove battery.
remove as much of the water or tea or moisture as possible WITHOUT turning the laptop right way up. find somewhere warm and dry and store the laptop for at least 3 days fully open.. I did exactly this and after three days decided I had given it enough time. I plugged the battery in and it worked fine. I guess I was lucky and quick thinking saved a £400 laptop. I hope this helps anyone reading.

Please try another SD card as to eliminate the card as the source of the problem. As you mentioned uninstalling and reinstalling the driver in Device Manager you may want to "Roll Back Driver" there as an update could have caused this problem initially and reinstalling the updated driver wouldn't solve it.
Post back your results so that we may continue to help you troubleshoot this issue?

Marie, If your computer is not equipped with a SD/Micro SD card Reader you will have to purchase one to simplify looking at it and copying it on computer. You can also use appropriate cable possibly to hook your camera up to computer.
Step 1/ Insert a USB card reader into an available USB port on your PC.
Step 2/ Insert the micro SD card into the card reader. Some card readers will only accept standard SD cards. If that's the case, insert your micro SD card into an SD card adapter and insert the adapter into the card reader.
Step 3/ Click "Open Folder to View Files" in the Auto Play window to launch Windows Explorer in the appropriate drive letter. Alternatively, press "Windows-E" and click the card reader's drive letter.
Step 4/ Drag and drop files to or from the micro SD card's drive letter to copy files. Alternatively, right-click and drag files and then select "Move Here" to move the files without keeping the files in the original location.
Step 5/ Select a file, press "Delete" and select "Yes" to delete files from the micro SD Card.
Step 6/ Right-click the micro SD card's drive letter and select "Eject." Once ejected, you may safely remove the card.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

My TransFlash 2.0 memory card doesn't show on my lap top

First, the basics...
There are three kinds of SD cards (SD, SDHC and SDXC). Not all computers are designed to accept all three types. SD cards can store up to 2GB of data, SDHC can store up to 64GB of data, and SDXC cards can store up to 2TB (terabytes) of data. If you are unsure which types of cards your laptop or computer will accept, visit the manufacturer's web site and look for the specifications for your particular model to be sure. It's tempting to want to buy an SD card with a large data capacity, but it's wasted money if your computer will not work with the high capacity card.

Make sure you have inserted the card correctly (and fully). The card is 'keyed' (with a notch in one corner) so it should only fit into the SD card slot one way *easily*. Obviously you can try to force the SD card into the slot the wrong way, but the position which goes in the easiest is probably the right way. Some devices have a symbol beside the slot indicating which way the card should be inserted. Be careful, though. It is natural to think the the card should be inserted with the manufacturer's label facing up, but I've seen devices where the card should be inserted 'upside-down', contrary to what I thought.

If you are using a Windows computer with a 'recent' version of the operating system (Windows Vista or later), the computer should recognize the card (as a newly attached piece of hardware) and show the card as a new drive letter when you open the Windows Explorer program to view your files and folders.

If the card is new, it should be formatted already and can be used immediately, BUT...your computer may need to have a driver program (software that enables the use of specific hardware items). My laptop, for example, uses a driver from Ricoh to enable the SD card slots, and that driver had to be downloaded from the HP support site and installed before my SD card slots would recognize SD cards.

If you know you have the correct SD card device driver installed, have an SD card that will work with your computer but still do not see the card in Windows Explorer, you can check in the Windows Device Manager to check its status. You can also use the Disk Management features of Windows to check what drive letter has been assigned to the drive. If the SD card has been assigned a drive letter already used by another drive, then it will not be available in Windows Explorer.

If you think any of these last problems I mentioned are part of your issue, reply here and I can see if I can help you further.

HPmodel 2000 notebook SD socket won't respond

First - try different SD cards to be sure it is not the card at fault. I assume it is showing up in Windows Explorer - it should be shown as a Removable Drive with a drive letter - on mine it is G: - Note that autoplay might be turned off, so any inserted card may not pop-up automatically. Assuming the card is fine and it fails to show up in Windows Explorer, or if the drive itself is not in Windows Explorer, look in the device manager to be sure the SD reader device is being recognized by windows and if it is enabled - if it says disabled on not working properly, try to reinstall the driver. In my device manager, it shows up under Disk drives as a multi-card USB device and under Portable devices, it shows up as G:/. Alternatively, go to the HP site and see if there is an updated driver - if so, download and install that, reboot and test it again. IF these all fail, it could be a hardware problem.

SD card not recognized

What happens when you tried to plug-in SD card to the computer?

Have you made any recent changes to the computer prior to the issue?

To make the SDHC be recognized by the computer, we need to ensure that the card reader works in Windows 7 first. Please check if the card reader is recognized properly by the computer and you have installed the driver for it.

Meanwhile, you can plug some other storage cards to the card reader and see how it works.

I would suggest you to refer the link below
A Secure Digital (SD) card may not be recognized on a Windows 7 based computer.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981642

Uninstall all the Generic USB drivers and reinstall.

1. Open Device Manager.

2. In "Disk Drives" dropdown, uninstall the "Generic SD/MMC USB device" drive.

3. Restart computer.

4. Insert SDHC card.

Hope this helps.

Can't download music to mini sd for ATT 8525

There are 2 ways to do this.

The first is to get a microSD card reader, take the card out of the phone, put it into the card reader and plug that into your computer.
Then this will show up as a flash drive, and you will be able to drag-and-drop, or copy and paste.

The second is, when you have your phone connected to your computer, and ActiveSync is active, you can explore your phone and microSD card.

At the top of the ActiveSync window is the "Explore" button.
Click on it, and a new window should open up.
Click on "My Windows Mobile-Based Device", then "Storage Card"
You can drag-and-drop or copy and paste.

If you can't see the "Storage Card" folder, your phone may not recognize the microSD card.
The original Windows Mobile 5 (WM5), only recognized standard microSD cards up to 2GB.
You would have to upgrade the software/firmware to WM6 to recognize microSDHC cards of 4GB, 8GB and above.

It looks like you have Vista, I have XP, your results may vary.
