SD Card Reader Not Working on Acer Aspire 5600 Laptop

i changed my hard drive .. and my computer has an SD slot .. but it wont read my card when i insert it .. odes it have to do with the new hard drive .. what can i do ..

may i know how do i put a SD card in ACER laptop????
like different sizes. cannot slot in.. =((((

I had a similar problem where my memory card reader would not show up in explorer. I found the problem was linked to using a USB mouse. There seemed to be some sort of conflict. I did a bit more looking around and found a solution that worked for me here....

I basically browsed to c:\windows\inf (which is a hidden folder so you must unhide it in your folder options) right clicked usb.inf and selected install. Everything started working.

cant see my sd card when i put it in,

dont think the drivers are installed.

can you help ?

I had the same problem on my Acer Aspire 5630.
First I tried installing the drivers I downloaded from Acer's website for my computer (which in my case were called CardReader_ENE_3.00.00_Vistax86). I even restarted the computer as it told me to. But that didn't work.
Then I removed the drivers completely (and said Yes to Windows Vista's question about whether it should delete the drivers from disk).
Then I installed the drivers downloaded from Acer.
And now, even without having restarted the computer, it works! I can change SD cards, and Vista immediately responds to it.

I have an Acer 4520 and my internal memory card reader would not read a regular SD 2 GB card and kept telling me it needed to be formatted, I did this numerous times, with the result being unable to format. The reader had no problems reading and writing to a 4GB Mini SD with adapter. I thought this was strange, so after doing a little research, I ended up going to Acer's site, where I found a driver for the reader, and installed it on my computer. I then went to Microsoft's site and found the Service Pack 1 for Vista and also installed it on my computer. After doing both of these things, the reader formatted without any problems. I then made the mistake of thinking the Service Pack did the trick, so I removed the driver from Acer, luckily for me, Vista recognized what I did and went online and found the software to make the reader work again. So I am assuming that for this particular Acer, getting the driver from Acer, and if you don't already have it, getting the Service Pack 1 for Vista, might help fix problems that are occurring with the internal memory card readers on the computer. Try rebooting with a card in the card reader. Worked for me running Vista on an Acer 5735Z.

WAH MY SD card suddenly stop working and the computer cannot recognize it.

Don't know why but Acer tend to have driver that may and may not work, then wants a fee for support. Check the driver version for SD controller in device manager. Then google to search for newer driver. Lot of times, I managed to find a driver that is updated to fix the bug for Vista.

If you have XP, search on Microsoft, they have a patch that will fix the SD card reader problems.
