Macbook booting with startup noise but no screen activity!

I have a macbook 13. I turn on the mac, the bootup music sounds. The caps lock and volume trigger sounds. But the screen does nothing. I have not dropped my machine it's just not playing ball. I plug in my ipod and it plays from itunes. I just cant see whats happening on the screen!

Is this a trick question? There is no "DOS mode" on a MacBook Pro.
Do you have WIndows installed as part of Boot Camp, and your machine is booting into Windows? To boot back into the Mac, either use the Boot Camp control panel in Windows, or hold down the Option key after you hear the startup chime and select the OS X partition to boot from.

I do not have a startup disc ,how can i start my macbook.i tried all the key combinations for intel-base mac. only the apple logo and rotating don,t know what appear on screen.please help.

does it have ram inside. safe boot is a must. it took me 5hours to hack g4ibook 4 my 1rst time fscky aka command line. or on your other mac do superduper app.

try holding down the alt(option) key when starting up it should give you a list of startup options, it sounds like you dont have a astartup disk (an operating system) installed.
