If you are connecting your computer thru the ethernet it should not need a CD. If you are connecting wirelessly then you should need drivers for the wireless NIC. (the wireless thing in/on your computer that talks with the router.) You should be able to go to the manufacture website such as linksys and get the driver off there. I just went to linksys and they make so you have to go all over their website to get it but on the homepage in the top corner is a link that says downloads, click that choose your product, then enter a model number and it should then take you to the page that will offer driver downloads. Simply download unzip and install. If the wireless NIC is diffrent then linksys then simple go to the manufacture that made the hardware.

Wireless router is not connecting to pc even via network cable, all lights are on except 'internet' light.

Absence of an internet connection suggests a missed step in the set up process. (Apologies if you have tried this) the ASUS manual has a very good diagram to help with this

Im trying to hook up to linskys via my laptop and its asking me for the security key or pass phrase for linsky?

Hi Good day!! your linksys is password protected that's why its sending you a message to enter it's password, you need to enter the password of the router (linksys) if you want to access the router.. try this- username: admin password: (no password just leave it blank and then enter) that is the default password. hope it works for your linksys

We have a router so that we can have wireless connections in the upstairs of our house. The connection shuts off every 20 min or so. Do you know a solution?

Have you tried moving the computer upstairs to a different place to get the best signal ?
What is the signal strenth?
Have you tried moving the router to a different position?
If your signal strength is quite weak, you may need to get a more powerfull router, like this one
they are about twice as expensive.

My edimax router is not broadcasting a strong wireless signal but works fine with an ethernet cable. Any ideas how to get the signal strength higher or do I need a new router

Try moving the computer closer to the router or place the router up high and move the antenaes around. Check to make sure there is no interference with anything such as cordless phones, etc. You can also go into the configuration by entering into your web browser and change the channel that the wireless broadcasts on. I would recommend channel 9 because by default everything is set to channel 6. After you configure reboot the router and the computer.

Hope this helps!

Wireless set up problem - no gateway ip or limited connectivity

Connect using Lan Cable
be sure to enable java on your Browser.
Use ONLY IE: some router refuse other browser.
SET your PC on a static IP address on SAME subnet as your router (but of course different IP).
If subnet concept is NOT clear to just just ask here.
When connected with router (on Lan Cable) check every setting (WPA-PSK) TKIP key, Broadcast / Channel etc.
You can also disable every WLAN protection and restore it later.
Activate WLAN connection WHEN you are STILL connected.
Last but not least: SET your DNS IP address = your gateway IP (router)

I want to use 2 wire ATT UVerse -- BUT NOT WIRELESS

the 2wire att uverse router, does not broadcast wireless signal if there is no wireless computer connected to its network. regarding the unchecking of the ssid, it will only hide the network name of your router, but technically, if a computer will try to connect to your router, it will still "send" wireless signal to a computer within its range.

you do not have to worry about the wireless signal being sent, if nobody connects to the router via wireless cionnection.

Low signal strength on Belkin F5D 8233-4v3 wireless...

With speeds around 10 mb to the router over wireless you may want to consider checking if AUTO chanel is enabled or available on that model
If so then enable it.

Also consider moving the router if there are any other wireless devices nearby eg. cordless phone.

It may also be the the windows "zero wireless configuration" service is finding too many other wireless signals nearby that may be stronger than your own

If that is the case you may want to disable the service and set it to manual. Better still if you have a utility on the laptop (most have) then try set that to control the wireless setting instead of windows.

One of those last two items should help you maintain a better connection but only holds true if you have a reasonable connection to the router to start with.

You might also consider a cheaper wireless repeater to enable you to get better speeds
