Question about Uniden DECT1080-2 Phone

My home phones are acting up!!!!

Ok, I bought these Uniden DECT 1080-2 phones that are the 6.0. Anyways lately they have been acting up and saying the Line In Use when no one is on them. Could it be the cold weather or is someone hacking into our phones?

Re: My home phones are acting up!!!!

I experienced this when using this model phone as an analog adjunct to an extension on a Panasonic TA624. The problem would come and go--and was driving me nuts! Turned out the culprit was BGM (Background Music) was occasionally being activated/deactivated on that extension, by pressing the [1] key inadvertedly. Since there was no outside music source--it was not playing anything to give you a clue. Once I hooked up a music source (an MP3 player) it became obvious. Good luck on finding your problem.

How do I change my original message on the answer machine?

Which Uniden DECT 6.0 phone do you have? Uniden makes several models.

For one Uniden phone that I know (DECT-1080), first make sure that the answering system is on. If needed, at the base press Ans On/Off. From a handset, press Menu/OK and use the redial and Phone Book keys to navigate through the menu to AM Operation. Press Menu/OK and navigate to Ans Settings. Press Menu/OK and navigate to Answer On/off. Press Menu/OK and then choose On and then Menu/OK again.

To set the Out-Going Message, again go to the Ans Settings submenu at the handset, and navigate to Record OGM and press Menu OK. Select OGM 1 or OGM 2 and press Menu/OK. Record your message after the tone. To select the OGM message to be heard by incoming callers, navigate to Select OGM, press Menu/OK, select the message and press Menu/OK.

Please note that you also need to make sure that the system isn't set to Announce Only in the Message length section. Enter this submenu from the Answer Settings as above. The choices are 1 minute, 4 minutes and Announce Only.

You can also do set the OGM from a touch tone phone remotely. Press * as the OGM plays and then enter your PIN. Press 06 and then 1 or 2 to select the OGM to edit. Then press 9 to return to the main menu.

However, on the DECT-1480, you set the OGM from the handset but in a different combination. Press Messages/Mute then 5 (or wait for the announcements to end). Press 8 or press the Caller ID/right arrow to navigate through the menu to 8: Record New Greeting. Press Menu/Select. Wait until you hear "Record greeting" then speak your message normally. Press 8 to end and listen to the playback of the greeting. Press End to save the message. (Select the desired greeting by pressing 6 instead of 8.)

Most Uniden DECT phone manuals are available from the product page or this list: .

If you provide your model number in a comment, I'll be glad to give you the specific directions for setting the OGM on your phone.

I hope this helps.

I get a message hand-set not in range. No charge light. Hook up appears OK. Second home phone works properly. Prior to problem I tried to dial a local no. but entered 8 nos. Phone says searching or...

Dialing the 8 numbers should not cause a problem.I have a few suggestions, you may have tried a couple already.Hang up the problem phone on the base unit for about 30 seconds. If that does not help, remove the battery for a few seconds and try the 30 second hang up again.Try unplugging the base unit for a half minute.I am trying to get it to reset itself and link to the base.Is the second phone part of this system too?We had a Uniden and I personally thought it ended up being garbage and will probably never buy another one.If you end up deciding to buy a new phone, the new technology is DECT 6.0 and is supposed to have better range from the base, clearer sound to name a few things. The strange thing about it is that it operates at 1.9 GHz.Also,if you decide on a new one, google DECT phones. There are all kinds of forums about peoples opinions/ratings of ones they have bought and used for a period of time.If you have any questions, just comment on this post and I will get an auto email saying you posted.Good luck!
