Your Printer needs servicing

The waste ink pads are the pads that the print head sits on on the right of the printer. You see when the cartridge returs to its neutral position on the right of the printer the pads below it are the ones you are looking for..

You need to replace the pads and reset the printer or it still wont work..

you can also take the pads out , wast then with rubbing alcohol and put the back in the reset the printer..

HERE is the service manual that will give you step by step instructions on how to do this

How can I change the foam pad that absorbes ink? What part is that called?

Hello

Its better to just remove them clean them up and replace it in the printer, because usually some printers require a reset code to re-set the waste ink counter. If the counter is not re-set there will come a time when then printer will refuse to print.

Here is how to clean your waste ink absorber;

Open the printer and locate the waste ink absorber near the ink cartridge.

Remove the absorber pad and hold it in cold water while squeezing the ink out. It would be wise to wear gloves while doing this, because the ink in the pad will leave stains.

Use paper towels to dry the waste ink absorber pad. Let it dry completely before installing it back in the printer.

Reinstall the ink pad into the printer and run a test page to make sure it works.

My Cannon MP180 printer will not print is says that my ink absorber is full. What do I do?

The waste ink absorbers are pads that absorb waste ink during head cleaning cycles. One set of pads is below where the print cartridges rest when not in use. There is another set of pads at the bottom of the printer. If the error is "waste ink nearly full", press OK to clear the error temporarily.

Cleaning these or replacing them is a messy job and may not be worth it. If the printer is under warranty, get Canon to do it for you. If you decide to do it yourself, have plenty of newspaper (or other absorbant material) ready. Take apart the printer from the top; there are some screws you may have to remove to get at the pads. Then blot off most of the ink. Blot the excess ink from within the areas where the pads sit. Place the pads under running water until the water runs clear. Dry the pads; you can use a hair dryer to speed this step if you want. Then reassemble the printer.

Next reset the waste ink counter. Do not start this step before cleaning or replacing the pads; waste ink will get everywhere after a short time.
Power off printer
Hold down STOP/RESET button then Press and Hold down Power button
Keep Power button down and Release STOP/RESET button
Push STOP/RESET button twice
let go of power button

Wait 20-30 seconds - my display shows "canon Idle"
Push STOP/RESET button four times
Push Power button twice
Power off
Next time the printer is started the waste count will have been reset.

Please note that the counter is designed to be a number of pages that will be reached when the printer is reaching its end of life. Additional failures may occur soon.

I hope this helps.

Printer says"waste ink near full"

The waste ink is a set of sponges inside the ink jet that absorb ink during the printhead cleaning.
For now you can keep printing by pressing and holding the printer's On/Off button for one second. Then wait 10 seconds and press the On/Off button again. Wait until the printer finishes cycling before trying to print again. See Canon's support page for details: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/multipass_series/multipass_mp700#ServiceAndSupport . Search for Waste Ink Full.

When the waste ink tank is full, then you will not be able to print until the unit is serviced. Canon will service this for you. (Free except for shipping if the printer is under warranty, standard $$ otherwise) However under normal use, the waste ink full counter should be reached its limit near the expected end of life of the printer. Additional failures may occur soon.

This is a messy job and may be a lot more work than you want to do. Have plenty of newspaper to absorb the ink if you try this. You need to disassemble the printer to reach them. One set is under the area where the printhead sits when the printer is idle. The other is further down in the center. You will need to remove a few small screws to access the bottom set. Once you get them out, blot off most of the ink and then run under water until the ink is completely out of the pads. Blot the areas where the pads sit of the excess ink as well. Then dry the pads (you can use a blow dryer to speed this step). Then reassemble the printer. (Alternatively, order replacement pads from Canon)
See http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/45693 for additional comments from others who have tried this.

Next you can reset the counter. (Do not do this reset before cleaning or replacing the ink pads; waste ink will smear everywhere.)

Resetting the Waste Ink Volume Counter
1) Enter SERVICE MODE.---
By pressing [Menu] then [Copy] then [#]
2) Select TEST MODE. (using + or - keys)
3) Press the [OK] key.
3) Press the [8] key. (TEST MODE)
4) Press the [3] key.
5) Press the [0] key. (INK COUNT).
6) Press the [OK] key.
7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key
9) Press the [ON/OFF]

I hope this helps.

If this happens, just turn off the printer plug, then hold the reset\stop button, after that you turn on the plug while pressing the stop reset button, then follow these steps:

To reset waste ink counter:
-Press Menu-Scan-Copy-Scan to enter service menu.
-Use arrow keys to scroll to "Service menu counter access".
-Press OK.
-Use arrow keys to scroll to "ABS-M DOT COUNT"
-Press Copy.
-Use arrow keys to reset count to zero.
-Press OK.
-Press Stop/Reset.

To clean physical pads (optional):
-Open cover (as if replacing ink cartridge).
-Locate waste ink pads, they are far right under cartridge slider.
-Pry up waste ink pads (inky, might want to wear gloves).
-Rinse pads in sink or with alcohol, dry.
-Replace pads. Make sure pads are fully seated.

Canon PIXMA MP110 waste absorber is nearly full

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Open the cover, move the cartridges to the centre, and then press the pad of absorbent paper towel onto the waste ink pads. You can locate the waste ink pads to the right of the cartridges. This will absorb a lot of ink in the pads and that will remove the warning after you reset the printer waste ink tank counter. You can reset your Canon Printer by following this procedure—

1) With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding the Stop/ Reset button.
2) When the Power is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
3) When releasing the Power button and the Stop / Reset button (regardless of order), the printer will move into a service mode. (Waiting for menu selection)
4) When the on/off lights in green, press the Stop/Reset button 4 times for waste ink counter reset.
5) Turn off the printer.( it must be turn off) then turn it on again.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

How do you find the waste ink collector on a printer/scanner ?

Inkjet printers have a fibrous pad inside them that collects the waste ink from cleaning the print head. Over time, this pad fills up with ink and can no longer hold any more. When this occurs, the printer indicates a "waste ink tank full" error.

The waste ink absorption pads are inside the printer, in the very bottom. They are usually soaked with ink when full and are very messy.

Replacing the waste ink absorption pads is something an authorized canon service facility can take care of for you.

Waste ink near full error

Canon's a little shady when it comes to this, since any waste ink pad I've seen never has been more than 30-40% full. You can reset that status without cleaning the waste ink out and the printer should return to normal.

1) On the printer, press Additional Functions, Scan, Copy, Scan. This will put you in service mode.

2) Select Test mode at the bottom

3) Select #8 Printer Test, wait for more options. It should say 8-2 or 8-3; push the + or - button until it says 8-3 then hit Select. The menu will now say EEPRON Clear

4) Select Ink count which is option (0) and press set

5) Press Stop/Reset, then the power button and wait for it to restart.

I hope this helps!

The printer is indicating "waste ink near full"

Hey,

The waste ink pads should generally be around the cartridge carrier, or below, possibly at the bottom of the printer.

have a look at this page for instructions on how to reset the counter after the waste ink pads have been cleaned or replaced.
