Question about LG VX8100 Cellular Phone

Need usb driver to work with XP Pro SP2

I have a USB driver that is unsigned and Windows XP claims it may disable my system so I am afraid to use it. I can not remember where I got it from because I don't have a disk with those particular files on it. I must have downloaded it online. My former OS was ME.

My objective is to take my now defunct Verizon cell phone and transfer the contact list over to my PC, then export that list to my new AT&T cell phone. I thought maybe I would use SyncToy to accomplish this but it is all moot if my PC can not see my cell phone when I plug into a usb port.

Any ideas?

The LG website was not helpful. I am sure they are not supporting this phone anymore but did they ever come up with a safe XP driver and if so, who has it?

It sounds like the BIOS is set to auto-boot from the USB device.
Have you reset the 'boot order' in the BIOS?

Also if you are still running sp2 go to Microsoft update and install the updates. You should be running on service pack 3.
(the updates are free, and are more secure than sp2)

And here is the manual that describes how to install the driver:

Not your only able to install unsigned drivers on Windows XP and Vista 32Bit versions.
64Bit versions of Windows XP and Vista won't accept unsigned drivers at all.
On windows vista and xp chose to continue to install te unsigned driver when windows prompts for it.

Succes.

as for any usb device, the general rule is run/install first the driver program via the cd installation disk before plugging in the USB device. Try removing the Piano usb, restart the pc, install the cd driver, and plug in the piano.

The problem is probably not software, but hardware. The BIOS probably has disabled the USB controller, or the USB controller has probably gone out, the way to tell is when you restart the computer, when the screen first comes up, press the DEL key to access the CMOS setup utility. Check around for something that says "Onboard USB Controller" or "Onboard USB Support" and if it is disabled, enable it. otherwise the Motherboard has lost the controller and you either replace the board, or get a USB controller PCI addon card. Hope that helps.
