Question about HP OfficeJet 7140xi All-In-One InkJet Printer

3 Answers

Scanner failure While the printer sits there when not in use, the "scanner failure" appears in the screen and the light flashes. This happens when nothing is being sent to the printer or scanner.

I have had the printer serviced just prior to this problem. The scanner works fine before the "scanner failure" message appears. If I turn it off and back on again the message goes away, but appears in a short time without using the scanner or the printer.

I have an all in one hp office jet 7100 series. The window on the unit keeps showing"scanner failure, turn power off then on again". When this appears nothing works (copier, fax, printer, nor scanner). After turning the unit off either by the on off button on the unit or unplugging it from the surge suppressor or the wall outlet and restarting it again everything works fine for 10 to 15 minutes
after which the message reappears and I'm back where I started.
    Help, please

I HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IT WENT IN FOR SERVICE FOR ANOTHER PROBLEM AND THIS.

I WAS NOT PLEASED WITH THE SERVICE I RECEIVED FROM THE REPAIR SHOP AS THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD TRY AND FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEE.

All over the web the concensus seems to be disassembly and cleaning bulb, mirros and/or the glass and a calibration strip. Mine has the same error, and I'm gonna try the cleaning those locations. This forum mentioned a disassembly procedure for the D145, I hope it's the same for the 7100 series (7140XI) I'll post back my success.

I have seen posts from other sites about this particular HP printer (d145 Officejet All in one). The only solution seems to be taking the unit apart to "clean" the inside glass surface for the scanner. I've looked at one and can't seem to find an easy way to open it up to perform the cleaning. Maybe someone has an old one they have experimented with. HP will NOT help with this or service it for that matter.

Hi, It sounds to me that the scanner is bad or going bad. Have you tried turning of the unit and powering it back on to see if that makes a diffrence. If so more than likely your printer will need service. Hope this Helps!!!!!

Hi, If you had the printer serviced just prior to this I would be calling the service company you used and explain to them the problem your having. I wished I could help more but I don't know what the initial tech did or replaced when they were troubleshooting the problem.

this sounds simular to the photosmart C7250 ink system failure. which cause by air in the lines. and we fix this by reseting the printer and it redoes the cartridge installation. thus pushing all the air out.

Scanner doesn't work

This is a HARDWARE FAILURE with the OCR optical charactor recon, sensor ot lamp.

If the lamp comes on then goes off this will need to be repaired. This is a hardware issue not software.

HP 7410 will not boot. It powers up and the HP logo screen flashe

This was solved really well on this blog. It is some problem with the wifi board. If you disconnect it (no so hard and well explained on the blog) you will have network printing over a cable but no wireless.

Make sure the cartiages are sitting tightly in the printer and isn't loose. There are contacts on the cartiages and if the contacts aren't touching the ones properly in the printer it will show that cartiages aren't there.
