I have an old SPX90 Digial Reverb with a dead powersupply. The part number on the board is VA81400. Is this part number correct? Is the part still available? We tried ordering it from the Yahama dealer, and we got a keyboard powersupply. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Tom

I just finished working on one, finally got it going. I checked every component on the powersupply board using a tracker, a simple circuit that when used with a scope with X and Y inputs, gives a characteristic curve of the component. Everything checked fine.
As a last resort, I jumpered out the on/off switch.
I had checked it with a meter. The unit came back to life.
    The switch had failed internally.
Give it a try. I couldn't find a direct replacement so I mounted a toggle switch in the original switch opening. The customer is happy.

Any power supply will do as long as it has the same specs as the dead one, which will be:

Input : x Volts AC
Output: x Volts AC or DC
Watts: x
Amps: in millamps
Polarity: (for power supply with DC output only) Center pin = plus or Center pin = minus

You should be able to find the matching transformer/adapter/power supply at Radio Shack.

More info, let me know.

Charlie

P.S. The power supply you received may be the correct one -- check to see if the specs match the old one.

Testimonial: "This situation is a little more complicated that a Radio Shack fix. Thanks anyway."

I've told my Frontman 65r has a real reverb tank (accutronics). But it's almost imperceptible, even with the reverb knob at 10. Is that normal? Also, mid scoop for the drive channel and treble/bass for the...

The reverb should be quite strong. I would first look at the reverb volume pot R42 which is a 50K pot. I would also check the voltages on the test points near U4 (TLO-72 op amp tp13 and tp14) which amplifies the signal coming out of the box. It is possible the box has low power levels as well.
The problem is going to be around that section of the board if it isn't a dirty or dead(ish) pot.

The reverb should be noticeable enough to be annoying ;-]

Reverb wont work !!!!!!! Hot rod deville 410

probably a bad reverb tank. there is a little inductor inside that shorts out easily/common. you cant repair it. its just easier to order a new tank. what you do to test is........turn on the amp with the reverb turned up all the way........ volume up on the amp at normal playing level.....then tap or knock on the reverb tank itself......if you get sound then the output of the tank is good/ no sound the ouput side is dead.......then what you do is unplug the ouput of the tank and plug the output wire to the input of the tank and tap/knock on it again....if you get sound then the input side of the tank is good/ no sound is dead. this is a way to test the tank independently from input to output. which side is bad is irrelevant, what is improtant is determining if the tank is toast. i can get accutronics tanks from my distributor at a better price than anywhere else. email me thru my contact page on my website with the tank code numbers and letters so i can get you a price also check my price with whats on ebay, etc. my website is yostamplifier.com
good luck

Reverb problem

I highly doubt the reverb pan is dead, there are TL072 opamps on the input and output of the Reverb pan. Check those out. You can get the schematic from fenders website here. U6A and U6B are what you are looking for.

Installing an Astatic Echo Board in a Cobra 148

There should have been instructions that came with your reverb board. You are going to need to drill another hole in the case of the radio, or find a control where you can install a dual control knob onto.

Your reverb board is likely going to need 8v, so you will need to locate that off the logic board, likely from the frequency synthesizer. The the audio lines from the mic, or the output of mic amp, are going to be redirected to the reverb, and the output of the reverb feed back to where the wires were removed from.

If I recall correctly, the 148 is a bit of a bear to work with, not much room inside. You will likely have to get creative in placement of the reverb board itself. Make sure to wrap well so that it doesn't get tossed around and break something inside.

Hi ohmytom

Yes, they could be causing the problem. The filaments are a little hard to see sometimes, you will always get a little microphonic activity about preamp tubes. It may also have failing capacitors depending on how old it is. Is it a "Twin Reverb". Let me know the exact model and we can be a little more specific of the problem and solution. Cheers
