Trying to install a Dell monitor with my existing Compaq pc. I can get it to power up, but right before my desktop displays the screen goes blank then I get an "Out of Range" error. Can you help?

Re: Dell LCD Monitor

Maybe your new monitor cant handle the resolution settings your old monitor was using, try installing your old monitor, or one you know can use the setting you have defaulted, then lower the resolution, and then try the new one again, or boot the new one in safe mode, hope this helps

Dell monitor will only duplicate laptop screen. I want to extend. This was working before and stopped after removing and reconnecting monitor

Right click on the desktop, go to properties, go to settings tab. There you will see your display adapters. Identify screens 1 and 2. Assign monitor 2 to extended desktop. This is where your issue can be solved. Play around with it and get to know it. You can change the monitor to right and left, etc.

A menu keeps flashing on my monitor so fast I can not read it and it will not stop. Black box with grey edge. Compaq 5017M monitor

mrsrobins849, if monitor manufacturing date (on rear of unit) is anywhere close to 2003-2004 then trade unit for new wide screen only if problem of flashing "menu" goes away when you connect a borrowed substitute monitor to your pc. Will your monitor "act" same when connected to "known-good" "fully-booted" pc that will display the WIN-desktop?? Most problems with "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" "back-lit" lcd monitors can be attributed to their internal or external "switch-mode-power-supply" DC voltages degrading over time with use.

Viewsonic VE175b Monitor Powers Up Doesn't Display Windows OS

Hi; I had the same problem. I know that sometimes devices require you to perform some type of '10-30 second' "hold" of one or some of its buttons in order to 'reset' the device, so to speak. So, having said that, try this:

1) Turn your monitor off (no green light) but leave it plugged in.
2) Leave it off for about 10 seconds.
3) Hold the [2] button on your monitor (the one to the immediate LEFT of your monitor's POWER button).
4) While holding the [2] button, now press and HOLD your POWER button.
5) Wait for your image to appear and STAY onscreen for about 5 seconds, then release both buttons.
6) Your monitor should retain its onscreen image.

Hope this helps! Good Day to all!
