After a few minutes, I will hear a loud "pop" and then the system will shut down. The reciever itself is on but it doesn't send any sound through the speakers. Is this a fixable issue or is the whole thing "scrap"?

I tested my receiver with the cover off and a fan running over it. It does the same thing ,goes on for a few seconds and shuts off. There must be a component that's bad. Does any one know which switch, relay or other part may be doing this ?

I tested my receiver with the cover off and a fan blowing over it and it still does the same thing, turns on for a few seconds then turns off. Can anyone out there tell me which component may be doing this ?

I have a 7100 with the same problem. I took the cover off, and kept turning it on again when it would shut off. Eventually I smelled smoke, and saw that a resistor at the heat sink in the back left of the receiver was glowing orange. I replaced it, but still same problem. I tested the transistor (C4468) on the far left that's connected to the resistor, and it measures about 133 ohms, while all the other transistors have infinite resistance. Radio Shack has some transistors that may work. SanKen makes a 2SC4468 which is rated for 100W and 10Amps, so I'm thinking it's the same thing. I'm hoping it's not something upstream from this. I may have caused it by accidentally touching the a speaker wire to the case in the back. Makes sense because I think the resistor is in the volume control circuit for one of the surround speakers.

It is over heating. Mine did the same thing. Make sure you have plenty of breathing room for it

Connect R5100 to DVR/Monitor

use component audio to the HDTV and optical audio to your KLH reciever. The component and optical are always active at the same time. I work for TWC if you have more questions.
