My new camera (Pentax Optio 750Z) appears to have some noticeable barrel distortion at wide angle and pincushion at telephoto. I'm looking for a useful filter to correct this.
I keep finding references to PTLens on the web, but they all point to a 404 website.
Does anyone know how to get PTLens, or know a good way to correct this kind of distortion without it?
I'm currently running the GIMP, 2.05, under Windows.

I tried. The preblem is the pthread stuff - there seems to be a port of this for Win32 (http://sources.redhat.com/pthr eads-win32/). But instead of adding another dependency, could this be rewritten using gthreads?

Thanks Leonard,
I found a panotools plugin for gimp 1.2, but couldn't find one for 2.0 (for Windows anyway). Then I found a pspi.exe for Gimp 2, figured out how to use it, and tried the Photoshop PTLens plugin. No luck yet, but I'm still working on it.
I also found source code for twist and wideangle, two plugins that supposedly handle pincushion and barrel, but haven't yet tracked down any binaries. I could try setting up an environment for compiling them, but I don't have the heart for that right now. I've got the free Borland C++ compiler on my machine, but haven't got the Microsoft compiler at the moment and know I'd have to go through some hoops to get GTK, Gimp, and whatever else working before I'd even be ready to start on twist and wideangle.
Lest you Linux guys think that you have all the configuration fun and us Windows users don't get any of the challenge of getting software to work - don't be too sure of it. We get plenty of fun too. I spent 5 hours Wednesday getting my new Epson scanner to install under Windows XP before I finally discovered and corrected some registry errors on my system to get it working.
But I guess that beats the 20+ hours I spent (before giving up) trying to get my Linux dual boot to recognize my wireless network card.
Computers are such a hoot.

Thanks Gerald.
I discovered the problem with the PTLens website is that it has exceeded the allowed number of downloads per month. It may be available later, or maybe some kind soul will rehost the software for the author.
It appears that the GIMP plugin registry has twist and wideangle, that website seems to have problems too at the moment. But I'll get them eventually.

I got into the site and downloaded the software. It took a few minutes to figure it out and add my Pentax Optio 750Z to the pentax_profile (it seems to have the same lens as the Optio 450/550/555 and so can use the same profile), and try it out.
I don't have Photoshop and therefore couldn't use the fast Photoshop plugin version. But the stand-alone version, although a bit slow (22 seconds on my Athlon 2600+, 38 seconds on a 2.26 GHz Pentium 4, both for a 7mp image), it works great.

There is a gimp plugin for correcting barrel and pincushion distortion. It is based on panorama tools. I had to do some searching to find it in the first place, and unfortunately I didn't keep a record of where it is. But it should not be too hard to find with google. It works quite well once you figure out how to use it, and it is very simple to use.
