Re: hi-def dvd

This is not a High Definition DVD player, it does upscale a regular DVD to HD resolution, but that's just an electronic trick.

Also, Toshiba has abandoned the HD-DVD standard (did you find the discs on sale?), you'd need to find a BluRay player (like the Playstation 3) to play high definition DVD's.

Samsung's mini systems used to limp home in disgrace, It cuts an impressive profile. Standing almost to the shoulder, it has some of the panache of B&O, but packs more technology and carries significantly less of a premium. The floorstanding speakers are plastic, but finished in a sophisticated gloss black, while the main unit has a vibrant scrolling blue LED display.

The excited claims on the box of this being the first ever 'Full HD' system are a bit misleading. For a start, it's not genuine Full HD insofar that the disc player doesn't spin any of the new hi-def disc formats - in Samsung's case, that would mean Blu-ray. As far as this system is concerned, Full HD simply means upscaling DVD to 1080p.
There's no internal HDD this time, but the HT-TXQ120 can read picture, music and movie files from the USB port. The deck can also spin multichannel Super Audio CDs and DVD-A discs. An HDMI input is great news for anyone that wants to hook up a hi-def player or console.
Connecting to a projector lays bare the Samsung's picture performance, and it certainly stands up to scrutiny with our Saving Private Ryan DVD. Standalone DVD players generally achieve more vivid and consistent colours, but there's not much blocking or background fizz to spoil the party here.
Upscaling to 1080p brings a marked improvement, snapping edges into sharper focus. Thumbs up for the internal scaler, then.
The Samsung also gets to grips with the 5.1 mix on Saving Private Ryan well. With all of the speakers on matching stands, it's easy to position them in the ideal formation and although they lack the bass refinement of traditional wooden cabinets, they can deliver accurate mid and treble subtleties. The chunky subwoofer fills in the LFE to complete a coherent soundstage.
This is an excellent system - delivering real surround sound and excellent visuals.

DVD player wont play disks

hi, if your dvd player is giving you disk error message or no disk message then the chances are the laser lense needs cleaning.

What you need to do is go to any big computer store and purchase a dvd lense cleaning disk, dont buy the cheapest one as they tend not to work so go for mid range or top end one.
Then all you need to do is put this disk into your dvd player and it will then clean the lense for you and should solve your problem.

If how ever you still have the problem then try different disk in it to ensure the dvd your trying is working ok if after doing this you still have the problem then the chances are the laser unit itself is no good and needs replacing.
The problem with this is unless your dvd player is built into the telly then the chances are it would be cheaper to go out and buy a new dvd player as the cost of repair would more than likely cost more than the cost of a new dvd player

Emerson AV50 says ''NO DISK''

Hi, sounds like you have a dirty laser eye on the DVD player. The eye gets dirty and it won't read movies or function properly. I would recommend a DVD Cleaner CD. I would have you try this before I have you open the DVD Player to clean the Laser Manually. Please try this and Post the Result for me to Review. Thank you

HD Disks

Salutations martyd50,

Only very specific players will play HD - DVD's. the Bose systems are currently only configured for standard DVD's

On a side note, HD - DVD's are being phased out by many retailers, and hardware manufactures.

Hope this helps.

Hd dvd

As a general rule, Blu-ray and HD do not mix, unless you have a dual format player. That said, I will assume that you are using AT Least one of these newer format players. A standard player will not play either of the higher definition format discs...accordianman

Lx 9000r wont play any dvds even previously played

You can try reseting the unit.
Reset the set to the default factory settings:
All the information stored
(programmes, time and date) will be lost.
Disconnect the set from power supply.
2. Press and hold down "STANDBY•ON" on the set and reconnect the set.
3. As soon as "IS TV ON?" is displayed, release "STANDBY•ON."

Hopefully reseting it will clear whatever problem it is having and allow you to once again use your DVD player.
Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Is HD gaming possible?

you need to be more specific. what kind of connection are you using? RGB, or hdmi? if it's rgb there is a switch at the base of the plug that connects to your xbox, it switches from reg tv to hi def. Also depends on what game you are playing not all are hi def
