same issue. the screen fades after turning on as if a light bulb is being dimmed. if you strain your eyes, you can see that it is not in sleep mode because the desktop and mouse are still operational. you just can't see what you are doing.

My screen keeps going dark. I have replaced the

Its not the inverter, it's your backlight. Hard work to change, sorry, and it might be cheaper/quicker to replace the whole lcd panel at $100 (£65)

HP DV1000 screen too dim

The 4 most common problems with dim lcd's on a laptop are boken screens, bad power inverter, bad florescent bulbs or a broken cable.

You can test the power inverter with a meter.

There should be 2 bulbs. If your screen is dim and your inverter is good and you can still make out what is on the screen, you probably have a bad bulb. If you can't determine which bulb is bad you'll have to replace both.

In my opinion, the easiest way to handle this is to replace the whole screen. Yes, it's more exspensive, but consider that it is most likely to fix your problem. A replacement screen comes with the power inverter, both bulbs, and the cable; already assembled and ready to install.

My dell e1404 laptop is having a issue with the screen. When you turn on the computer the screen will come on for about 30 seconds and then go off. When it's on everything looks normal. once it goes out...

The inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. The inverter board converts low voltage DC power (few volts) supplied by the motherboard to high voltage AC power (few hundred volts) needed for the backlight lamp.
When the inverter board works properly, the backlight lamp gets power and the LCD screen lights up. As a result, the image on the screen is bright. If the screen is dimming down, means that the inverter is failing in it;s job to supply the needed voltage to the Backlight.
The Inverter is mounted underneath the display screen and is connected by a two wire plug.

My Dell Inspiron 1521 keeps going dim every few minutes

This is usually an inverter or lamp issue both of which you could do yourself if you felt comfortable delving inside your laptop.

It is not usually an expensive repair and parts are available from a large variety of sources but EBAY is a good bet.

If you don't feel comfortable then a good local tech shop will be able to handle it.

Either way If one of those components is failing it is usually better to replace BOTH as they are connected.

Acer Aspire 5735 LCD changes bight-dim-bright, etc.

You could have a faulty inverter, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

My monitor goes dim after a few minutes. When you switch it off and on again the dsplay is ok then becomes so dark

Hello,

How dim is dim? If the picture is still visible just like half as bright then your have backlight tube problem and unit LCD needs to be replaced, not worth repair price. If the picture goes out almost to a black screen where you can just bairly see a faint image then you hold the screen just right then you have a backlight inverter issue. If the problem is the inverter then you should be able to replace a few parts and get your unit back going. If you think you can open the unit up and maybe solder a few parts then I would open the case and look for bad capacitors on the power supply board. I can send you pictures of what to look for if you are interested. We also have a repair service for those units, most power issues run $15.00 plus shipping. Let me know if you need help opening the unit and checking parts.

Compaq presario V1000 display problem

Is this only when you are operating from batteries or also on AC (through the adaptor) as well?

You should also establish what the complete model number of your system is, there are many in that series:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prodTopCategory?product=406879&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=

If the problem is only happening on battery operation, the pack may have one or more failed cells, reducing the available voltage below the level that the display inverter needs to keep the fluorescent backlight at full brightness.
The display is the power hungriest part after the processor itself.

The pack should have a rating on it and any multimeter (everyone should have one-digitals are dirt cheap) will tell you if the pack is charging up to its rated voltage.
