Microwave possible blown fuse??

I have a Sharp Over the stove microwave Model R-1480 manufactured July 2001. This microwave is in my motorhome & I hooked up my motorhome by mistake to 220 volt and now I have a T.V. & microwave that does not work and there is power to the receptacles?? After taking this "attack of dumb" I reset breakers and GFI receptacles and everything else started working but these two items. I am hoping there are fuses in both of these however I don't know where they are located and if indeed they even have fuses??

Thanks so much in advance for your input, it is appreciated.

Re: Microwave possible blown fuse??

Hi Lonnie,

Yes, both of them should have a fuse or two in the internal power adapter. If you open them up, you should be able to find it fairly easy (start tracing from where the AC power line comes in on the board). Make sure you unplug them and leave them unplugged for a good time

Once you find the fuses, you can take them to a local electronic parts outlet for identification, testing, and replacement. Most electronics places will have a meter on hand and be happy to do this for you for free.

Since you didn't give a city location for yourself, I'm afraid I can't offer a local store recommendation.

As always, when working on a TV, be VERY careful to make sure that the capacitors are discharged. See this faq:

What keeps blowing my fuse on my Sharp R-1480 microwave oven ?

A short circuit diode will do that or shorted turns in the magnetron high voltage transformer, or the magnetron or a sticky/contaminated door switch.
Hope that helps.

Microwave died while cooking

Sounds like the fuse has blown. There are some high voltage circuits that exists inside your microwave and you can potentially get hurt if you don't know what you are doing. Would recommend you have it serviced by a professional if you want it fixed, and you are not familar with high voltage components.

Microwave popped and now does not heat

Okay, first we need to separate the situations. You were boiling water on the stove and had the range hood fan running to **** up the steam. Then you put something in the microwave to heat and you heard a pop and then zip-o.

The water on the stove has nothing to do with the situation, the fan you turn on is not part of the microwave, so it has nothing to do with the microwave.

The pop you heard and then the humming suggests the magnetron failed. You said you found a blow fuse and replaced it and still nothing, right? The magnetron is the most likely culprit...I would think it is safe to say that the magnetron shorted and drew enough current to blow the fuse.

Replace the magnetron and if that doesn't work, let me know here. Good Luck!

Sharp R 1480

This is usually a blown high voltage rectifier diode.

We have the service manual and have uploaded it to our site here.

We have critical safety & disassembly info (including a disassembly how-to video) at our site, linked here.

Dead replaced fuse now makes loud noise

Yes that noise is causing your fuse to blow. Machine gun sound sounds like the High Voltage Capacitor or High voltage diode is bad. (Loud humming sound is usually a bad magnetron or bad power transformer). Most of these parts are inexpensive, except for the magnetron. But most of the repair bill is most likely going to be for labor.

Based on your model, it looks like an over the range microwave. And to fix any of these problems require the removal of the microwave from the wall. So its up to you if you want to deal with that hassle. But you also have to consider that you'll probably have a hard time trying to find a new microwave that will fit.
