Re: loud noise

It's probably the colorwheel not the fan, can only be fixed by replacement.

I have dell 3300mp,when I turn the power on it makes a very loud noise. It does not make the sound in standby or cool down. It does work and display a signal okay, but it is very loud. Sound like a fan?,...

The main fan that cools the lamp is mostly high speed when the unit is running. when it shuts down it slows the fan down, until it stops in standby. So the noise is only really loud when it is showing a picture.

try setting the fan to eco mode (slower running) and see if the noise is acceptable. If it is still too loud then you will have to replace it. Have a look at the fan and see if any of the plastic blades are missing.

Sharp XR-10X projector. Makes a loud whirring noise when trying to turn on. Bulb starts to turn on then doesn't. It's not the fans because I opened up the projector, disconnected the fans and it still...

the colorwheel motor bearings are starting to go. you'll need to replace the colorwheel. you can get the part from a sharp service center and do it yourself or send it to one for repair. either way, try av solutions in ny. they're really good.

I have 2300mp i had a loud sound and it sound like the fan was making a sound i took the buld out it look good but i bought one ant way, when i took the bulb out i was get small pieces of color thin glass...

This is undoubtedly a broke color wheel. The wheel is made up of four small slices of colored glass, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Clear. Each slice is fixed into a groove on a brass hub. The high-pitched "whirring" noise that you hear on start up is the wheel spooling up at high speed. If one of the "slices" comes loose from the hub it can break, bind or start scraping. Regardless, there is a sensor that reads the speed of the wheel and won't allow the unit to come fully on if the wheel doesn't come up to speed (which it no longer can). Bottom line...Game Over. It's simply too expensive to fix. I personally am hoping for a class action suit on this obvious piece of junk retailed by Dell. But think of all the extra money they are making from people rushing out and spending up to $300 for a bulb that won't solve the problem. Ahhh...gotta love free enterprise!

Loud humming after turning on.

I have sort of the same problem...there was a loud snap(kind of electical spark like) then the unit started humming loudly which changes sound as you move the unit around. The picture remains clear and the fan is quiet in shut down mode...still the wheel you think?

My projector makes a really annoying noise

It is also possible that the bearing is going bad on the fan. I'd look into getting a replacement fan if that's the case. It is probably cheaper than a replacement bulb that would be needed if the fan failed entirely.

Fan noise loud, bulb burst. Replaced with new bulb. Noise even louder! Unit shuts itself off.

the bulb may have burst from overheating from a fan not working to cool it down. and it can be replaced. it does take, however, a while to replace it because you have to take half of it apart. but make sure it's the fan first. take the lamp door off and remove the lamp. use something small and thin to push in the switch that the lamp door usually activates. turn the projector on and see if the lamp fan and the colorwheel (the multicolor glass disk) are spinning. if the fan spins, the noise may be from the colorwheel motor going bad. the fan can be purchased through an infocus authorized service center. check the website for the closest one. but the colorwheel for the x1 cannot be purchased seperately from the optical engine, and that costs a fortune. but here is the part number for the 80mm fan- 526-0152-00.

Dvd10 optoma projector makes a loud noise

Hi, I'm not sure if it's the same problem I had..
I had it on picture mute, for maybe 15 mins, which may not have been a good idea. While it was muted, it made a sparking sound, and then a very loud grinding noise. When turned off, the lound noise stops, and the fan continues as usual for about a minute. As soon as it's turned back on, the grinding noise is back. But the logo seemed to display ok.

I took it in for repairs, and they said they needed to replace the color wheel to fix the problem.

Fan making noise

Are you sure its a fan, dust out the fans.
If its not the fans you may have a power supply going out and causing some induction hum in the unit. Sometimes, but rarely, through the built in speaker.

To open this projector, you need to undo six screws at the underside of the case. That means you have to turn the projector upsidedown.
Pls note that one of these scews is a little hidden under the carrying handle.
After removing the screws, return the projector to it's normal 'up-side' up, standing position.
Remove the bulb cover srews and remove the bulb cover.
Lift up the top cover carefully starting from the front then all together.
The cooling fan is mounted very near the bulb assembly.
Carefully check the fan blades for any obtacles, wires or even a broken fan blade, that could be causing the noise.

Horrible noise

it is the color wheel i have a similar problem and am looking for the part, the color wheel is a small electric motor that spins at a high speed and it can go bad. which will lead to the horrible squeel/hum/buzz.
