My Admiral #HMG62184 side by side Refrigerator/freezer of 23 years has developed a problem. The refrig side is cooling to only 58 Degrees and the freezer is chilling to 33 degrees. I am using the freezer section as my refrigerator and keeping frozens in a basement freezer. There is some frost build up inside freezer section. Suggestions for repair or off to the appliance dealer? Up until now, the refrig has worked flawlesly.
23 years old ?
That thing was costing you more than a new unit would cost for the past 5 years!
Assuming your airflows are good, Its time for a new refrigerator.

The freezer cools the refrigerator, so you actually get very cold air passing from the freezer to the refrig. The air from the freezer enters the refrig on the top and falls to the bottom where it is drawn back into the freezer. The temperature of the refrig is regulated by a thermostat and a fan that runs when the thermostat calls for cooling. If the refrig thermostat is faulty and causes the fan to run more than it should, there will be a freezing problem in the refrig at the bottom because cold air falls and warm air rises. If the refrig is thermostat is calling for cooling constantly, this will take more cold air from the freezer than is normal. Your freezer temp might be higher than normal and the refrig will be colder then desired. If the fan from the freezer is running constantly I would suspect a bad refrig thermostat.
check the damper vent door between the refrige and freezer and make sure its opening up to let cold air from freezer into the refrige, sometimes they freeze up and cant open and close when called upon to do so,if so deice it with a hair dryer, the side being hot is good telling you the compressor is operating correctly
Hi, There are a few reasons why the refrigerator part will not cool...here are a couple of tips that will help you to figure out why the refrigerantor is not cooling...
Hih, Check and see if something has stopped the condenser fan motor down by the compressor from turning. Sometimes this happens in a move. Also make sure the controls didn't get turned to wrong settings. Make sure evaporator fan motor is working in freezer and that there is no frost building up on the rear panel. Just some ideas to help you. lease let me know if I can assist you further.
SHOULD HAVE A AIR DIVERT ER CONTROL TO SEND MORE AIR TO FREEZER AND LESS TO FRIG SIDE TRY TO SENT MORE AIR TO FREEZER SIDE AND LEAVE COLD CONTROL COLD ENOUGH TO ACCOMMODATE THE FREEZER SIDE TO BE COLD ENOUGH
Does freezer cool like the cold food section? Did this suddenly happen, and frozen food began to thaw? Most freezers control the cooling in the cold food section. The freezer must work fine before the cold food section will work fine. Let us know more, Thanks JT
