Power Switch intermittant when recording

I love my ZR500, but the power switch has developed a problem where it will sometimes power off and on multiple time before it finally decides it will behave. It only does this on the Camera setting, the Play setting is solid. Is there an easy way to get in there and clean the switch? I suspect a dirty contact, or some other fairly simple problem and it's off warranty.

Re: Power Switch intermittant when recording

Since canon wants to charge more to fix it than what it is worth I would suggest buying another camera, just don't buy a Canon. Then I would take the piece of junk you are stuck with and send it to them. Tell them you will never buy any other canon products and then mention where they can stick their service dept.

Re: Power Switch intermittant when recording

I got a response back from Canon. They said
"The repair cost could cost from $145 to $320. It could be more or less. The repair is based on the evaluation of the issue and the parts it will take to repair the camera."
For a $250 camera that wouldn't be smart.

Canon zr500 wont eject minidv tape with battery or external power supplied

This can be caused by several problems including a defective eject switch in the cameras internal circuitry and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I’m a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I’m semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

What do i need to connect my canon zr500 camcorder to my pc?

IF, your camcorder has FIREWIRE, than you can use that, and suitable DVR software. IF not, then I always recommend that, one use a TV/Video "Capture" card or USB "Dongle", either way, you simply connect that up, via, the AV, leads, usually S-VHS, or Composite, Or Component, or Firewire, Use a DVR, and basically, "Play" the "Video" and "Record" on the PC, with Digital Video Recorder, DVR, and save as a "Digital Format" then you can do whatever you wish, after recording. You can get propretory software from the manufacturers website, and download, drivers, and software to do as you wish. I recommend a program called Dscaler, it is the BEST DVR there is.

When ever the ZR500 is shaken, it turns off.

I think that when you shake it, the battery tends to move around and makes the camera lose power and when you stop shaking the battery settles and runs normally.

Canon ZR500 no Charge light

From what ive been told, you might have a blown fuse. Unfortunately it is just any regular fuse its a micro fuse. It is at the edge of the motherboard with the etching H or K there are 4 of them. You can test to see if there is conductivity, if not than it could be the fuse, you can replace it or try to solder over the fuse...that would be dangerous but your camcorder will work until excess current fries it. IF not it could be a loose circuit.
