I will try that(unpluging the convergence bd.) and see what happens. In answer to your question...the customer said that his 10 year old was watching it at the time it went out.

The compliant read "went fuzzy then shut it self off and will not go back on."

This is what is confusing. The term fuzzy could mean a few things to a 10 year old. For instance blurred could be the same failure.

Thanks for the help. I'll tell you what happened. By the way I'm an independent and have been doing this in my town for 19 years now.

Did the set have convergence problems before picture left? If so then you can unplug the conver. Bd and see if set comes up then this will tell you where the problems lies. Or you can check IC902, Q800-810 D655

Usually Sony and LG Blinking Codes are the same. Here is what I have.
  • Unit is dead, No blinks - Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse,
  • Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective.
  • One blink - not used for the self-diagnosis
  • Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.
  • Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit,
  • Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted.
  • Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
  • Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately.
  • Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.
  • Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code.
  • Nine blinks - Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).
  • Ten blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.

I was having video problem on my crt sony kv-g21p2. audio is fine and 1000volt is not producing but 115 volt is producing and i have replaced new fbt but still the same

good day since you have been already replaced the fly back transformer as you said so meaning the problem is not the FBT. any way here are some of my recommendation to isolate the problem .
  1. unplug the tv unit and then unscrew to open the back cover and gain access the crt chassis.
  2. now with use of flat screw driver remove the anode cap of fly back transformer make sure you discharge first for your safety.how are you going to discharge the voltage, get single wire then flat screw driver now strip one end of the wire and tie it to the flat screw driver the other end of the wire splice at the chassis ground of picture tube. and then insert the end portion of the flat screw driver to the anode cap to discharge the voltage left. you can now pull out the anode cap.
  3. by this time you will turn on the tv unit place the anode cap in a safe position not to damage the board be careful its a high voltage. plug the power cord and turn on then observed if their is an arching at the anode cap usually a blue color just to know if the high voltage is present.
  4. if their is a high voltage that means horizontal output transistor is good thats why the fly back transformer is on. your next step is to check the secondary voltage of fly back transformer with the use of digital tester or even an analog tester to know why their is no 1000v. check bad fusible resistor near the fly back transformer usually a 22ohms value this is where the 1000v pass through going to chroma board or video board. if open or no resistance pull out the said part and then replace with the same rating value.check also shorted diode connected to the resistor sometimes it was the cause why the resistor get bad.
  5. after you replaced defective part insert again the anode cap for testing once again be careful.
  6. now turn on again the tv unit then observed if their is a video on the screen check also the heater voltage at the chroma board if present usually about 2Vac something you will also noticed their is a light at the neck of the picture tube.
  7. if the 1000V is present the heater and the B+ supply voltage i'm sure the video will come out. i hope those steps that i give to you will help to fix your problem thanks for choosing the fixya if you have further question i'm glad to help you.

When I turn on the tv I hear the audio for about 3-seconds and it clicks and goes off....no picture at all, just audio.

From your description it is a high voltage problem, the cause is the fly-back transformer has failed, it generates the high voltage and with the help of other circuitry produces a picture. The cost to repair will be on the high side.

Standby light flashes green and red, the pattern is 11 flashes, is this serious

Submit the TV to an authorised SONY workshop for a quote and a full assessment of the actual problems. This repair could prove expensive/uneconomical, but it is up to you. The quote (and their second opinion) should help.

Here is a list of the problems that might have occurred indicated by the number of blinks:

* Unit is dead, No blinks = Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse, R607, Q601, IC601, R612 and VDR601 (should show open).

* Continuous blink once a second, no pausing = No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective.

* 1 blink = not used for the self-diagnosis

* 2 blinks = B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

* 3 blinks = B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.

* 4 blinks = No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505

* 5 blinks = AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

* 6 blinks = No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.

* 7 blinks = High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

* 8 blinks = Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.

* 9 blinks = Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).

* 10 blinks = Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.

I assume the TV has no picture/sound as a result.

I turn my tv on and and can hear it but no picture, then it turns off by itself and the red lamp light comes on

It is not a good idea for electronic products to be in storage for long periods of time. It is even a more poor idea to purchase used from a rental center; the result is more often than not a very bad experience.

With no picture, but working sound, it is a loss of the high voltage system. This is almost always failure of the high voltage autotransformer called the flyback and/or the HOT (horizontal output transistor) - which work together in producing the horizontal scan of the raster system and the high voltage to prduce the raster upon which the video picture is modulated.

The failure could very well be from HIGH temperature involved with the storage of the tv set.

The repair costs will be over $150 but not more than $300; depending on the exact parts that need replaced.

But: try the hard reset and the vibration/whacking test first to see if the moving business caused failures.

Hard Reset: Unplug for 4 hours, then try again. Do it twice.

Picture to wide

This trouble symptom picture wide or"blooming", the picture becomes dim even with the brightness control full on,and there is an abnormal enlargement of picture or raster.Usually, the enlargement is uniform, but there may be some defocusing. In some circuits, the brightness control operatesin reverse(rotating the control for an increase in brightness produces a decrease) after reaching a critical point on the control. If the picture wide is not accompanied by insufficient width(a symptom of horizontal output failure) the probable cause is a high volatge circuit ony, particularly the HV rectifier and HV winding.Any circuit problem that reduces but does not completely eliminate the high-voltage output to the picture tube second anode can cause overscan. The most likely defects are leaking high-voltage capacitors, defective high voltge tube rectifiers, leaking high voltage leads, defects in high voltage circuit protective resistance, and shorted turns in high voltage winding of the flyback transformer.

Hope this may help you;

Will not turn on.

  • proceed as given after your power supply is ok (your statement)
  • isolate power supply from h/output stage.
  • check diodes & capacitors connected with flyback transformer.
  • check for print short.
  • ckeck h/output transistor.
  • connect supply to h/output stage.
  • put on the set.
  • hope this will help.
  • good luck

still there is a drop in voltage then your fly back transformer faulty.

No raster no audio,Zenith SJ 2065S5

as horizontal transistor gets very hot so no eht so no raster &no sound due to nosupply to vif & tuner. as hor output is getting hot please isolate supply to hor. section & check power supply output is ok as due to high voltage h/outout may get hot & demaged. if supply is ok check for leaky or short parts in hor output. 1 hor. output transistor itself if it is replaced that may not be of proper matching. 2 diode& cap.in eht section. 3 clean print near eht. 4 moisture near yoke due to rain in rainy season only. so keep it hot for few hours. 5 at last if all are ok eht or fly back transformer. re connect power to hor output after rectification
