At 8 years age components are wearing out. It sounds like a power supply issue. It is not cost effective to repair.

Turn on the TV, red light stays on, picture goes blank after a second.

I have the same problem. Factory reset did not help (hold Vol-minus on set and menu on remote five seconds, then unplug). Can there be something in service mode that would help?

Alba tv picture appears but then disappears sound stays on

these tv's are prone to several problems involing the backlight inverter power supply...the main symptom is the one you are goes on lights up for a second then goes dark even though the sound remains..and you can switch channels..n they change too....the most likely cause of this failure in my experience is several high voltage electrolytic capacitors in the inverter power supply have dried up and place a high esr value on the circuit ...causing it to shut down...most of the sets I have repaired with this problem have 2 electrolytics rated 10 uF at 450VDC...and replacing these with high temp/high frequency electrolytic capacitors usually does the trick

My Westinghouse 36 inch TV has picture and sound when I turn it on but when I change channels, the picture disappears and I have only sound. The picture comes back if you turn the TV off and back on but...

Hello, it sounds like your inverter board is goin out on the set, when you change channels if you notice on almost any TV the screen goes dark and the new channel appears, it sounds like you are not getting enough power out of the inverter board to power up the backlight enough to come on. This is why the sound remains because everything else works fine and the sound is connected to the main board.

Picture problem when changing channels

Are you using a cable box or a satelitte reciever? If so i would suspect them first. If not, unplug the TV for 2 minutes and try again.
