I recently got a new modem from m isp(comcast) and While the tech guy was here everything was up and running. Then 3 hours later 2 of the laptops says limited or no connectivity. The third one is the only one that can connect to the modem fine to the modem. Its a direct connection with the default cord that came wih the modem I tried using. I saw a post on here saying to disable the local area connection and enabled it, but now one of the laptops is stuck at the aquiring network address. Heres my problem in a nutshell..
hp laptop- works fine with the direct connection to modem
dell laptop- says lmited or no connectivity
sony vaio- says limited or no connectivity
All three worked fine for the first few hours of this new modem, but now only one is working.
Hi, I had the limited or no connectivity problem on my wifes laptop for about a year.
THE SOLUTION:
Go into your wireless router/transmitter and change the channel. eg. mine was on Channel 10, and the following all connected Acer Laptop, Xbox360, Wii, Blackberry but not the Vaio. I changed to Channel 4 an the Vaio sprung into action and everything else updated itself automatically.

Limited or No connectivity is based from DHCP environment networking system, It means you don't need to add other third party software to make it work. The problem is from your network design such topology or star networking.
Your problem is recommended to use ICS setup this what we called Internet Connection Sharing. ie: you can use router which can handle dhcp system from your source connection upto your LAN.
Please check this site that make it easy you to understand the situation. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/wired.mspx
Hope this will be helpful to you.

Most of the time this happen due to cable connectivity compatibility. some networks do not have standard cables and color codes some devices work but some dose not. Best way is change cables or else drop down transition speed into half duplex 10mpbs or some law speed.

ok I did ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew on the 3 :
Sony vaio - ipconfig/release: "No operation can be performed on wireless network connection while it has its media disconnected.
Ip Address for adapter Local Area Connection has already been released"
ipconfig/renew: " An error occurred while renewing interface LAC : the interface is unknown."
Dell - connection-specific dns suffix is not listed, ip address is 0.0.0.0, and the default gateway is not listed.
HP - gives me all the info and ip address. So my question now is there a way to put in that info in the other 2 thats not working?
Going to read up on that site and try a few things and get back to you guys.
Ok, I tried the solutions on the page that did not have me download the microsoft patch to no success. The two laptops were working fine before and I have not downloaded anything new to make them not work. Should I download the microsoft patch and try it eventhough no downloads/changes was made to the laptops? I'm just afraid by downloading the patch while there is no problem will cause more problems =/.
I'm no computer expert so I would like to know if anyone out there experienced this new problem I have...Well the good news is that I can connect to the internet now, but I have to connect through a router. I have a linksys wrt300n router and with a wired connection or wireless connection to that router I have achieved an internet connection with those 2 computers(except the sony vaio only connects when I wired but not wireless =/ ). However I still cannot achieve a connection with those two computers through a wired connection to the isp modem. Does anyone know whys that?
My question in brief - Why can't I connect through a wired connection to the isp provided modem, but I can connect to a wired connection from my router which is wired though my isp's modem?
I have a similar problem with a cable modem, it works fine through the router but when I direct connect I get limited or no connectivity.
So Computer to Modem does NOT work
Computer to Router to Modem Does work
Getting a router is not an option I need to know what fixes it.
I tried a different NIC card, cables etc.
release/renew doesn't work
