Dell Dimension 3100 won't boot; keyboard fell off the table onto the tower; am getting 1-3-2 beep codes. Is this fixable?

Just because they hit the tower should not have hurt anything.

But, you should turn it off, pull the power plug, then hit the power button, then again and make sure the lights don't turn on or flash.

This make's sure that all the power is gone from the motherboard.

Before you touch the inside, make sure you touch metal, so you don't static shock the motherboard.

Now open the the side up. I would remove the two power connectors, one should be a 20-24 pin and another 4 pin.

Reset them to make sure they didn't come lose.

Check the HDD, hard drive plugs, fan plugs, the CPU fan plug.

Then check the monitor connection, and any on the back.

Try the monitor on another PC, or a monitor from another PC on this PC.

A hard shock to the power supply unit (PSU ) can kill it, it can still turn on the lights but not have the voltage to run it.

If you do all this and are safe and careful checking inside and out, then you might have to take it to someone who can test it.

You can also download the manual so you know what it looks like inside the PC and what the motherboard looks like and how you would set it up when new.

Good luck.

Dell e310 won't start after power failure ,orange

First up, don't buy a Dell again unless you like old **** with horrible support.

On Topic

- Did you pull out the keyboard and try another USB port (if it is an USB keyboard), or try another keyboard.
- If that doesn't work try clearing the CMOS (remove power plug, power on (to empty capasitors), either remove the CMOS battery and power on, or find a jumper to reset the CMOS. (since this is a Dell a that might not exist but check the manual).

I have a 4600i series dell and ctrl 11 wont work i dont have the cd to reboot

Good Morning, Keith O B:

Do you mean a software reinstall CD for your operating system? That seems a bit drastic for a keyboard problem. Depending on the costs of the keyboard, try electronics cleaning swabs, or get some canned air, or a vacuum cleaner with keyboard cleaning attachments. If cleaning fails, a keyboard can be replaced for as little as $20, and you won't have to reinstall all of your programs or e-retrieve your documents from storage,

Hope this helps.

The Dell Mini-Tower Studio computer won't turn on? This occurred about 4 months ago it did the same, then all of a sudden we pushed the button and it turned on.

The power source is failing - it will have to be replaced. You can find a generic 400 watts one in almost every shop that sells pc's. Installing it is easy - the cables plug only the right way.

I have a Dell PC and I unplugged the mouse and the keyboard temporarily to clean it. When I plugged them both back into the tower and turned on the computer, neither one worked. I tried to restart, shut...

To try to resolve the issue:
1.) Will a different keyboard and mouse work (PS2 is the name of these connections)
If they will, damage to the keyboard and mouse is likely)
2.) Will a usb mouse and keyboard work?
If they do, then the problem is with the controller on the mobo, unlikley but MAY have been casued by static.

If the USB keyboard and mouse do not work, you have some problems with the motherboard

Try switching off and unplugging the computer, remove the coin shaped BIOS battery and plug in the keyboard and mouse, wait 2 minutes or so and put the battery back, replug in and power on, see if the bios detects the keyboard and mouse (you will see the bios screen flash up a message). If the computer does nOT detect the keyboard and mouse it will (or should) flash a message on the screen saying "no PS2 keyboard or mouse detected".

If this fails to detect the mouse and keyboard and you get no message or beeps, then there may be damage to the connector ports.

If you can get a USB keyboard and mouse to work, use them, Effecting a repair to the motherboard will not be a viable option

How come my tower is making a beeping noice and the keyboard isnt working?

Well the tower is beeping because it's having an error, most likely the error is that it isn't detecting a keyboard (computers won't boot without a keyboard) make sure your keyboard is plugged all the way into the correct port and if you're still having issues, borrow someone else's keyboard and see if it works (your keyboard could be fried which means you'll need to buy a new one, or indefinitely "borrow" one from a friend).

Mouse works, keyboard won't..plugged in another mouse, it works, keyboard do I tell if it's the keyboard or the tower? Husband says its the tower.

try to plug the keyboard in another computer. If it is analog the lights dont come on the keyboard (caps lock, NUM lock, ect.) it is the tower if the lights do not turn on, it is the keyboard. If your keyboard is USB then try to use it on another computer if it doesnt work it is the keyboard, but if so I would make sure any software the keyboard came with is installed and try it agian.
