Question about Compaq Armada 1700 Notebook
YES! and even if you can't recover the password you don't need to!
You can use a CD called System resuce CD thats free and if you press F2 while booting this CD you will be given the option to recover any Windows Passwords. If you have a password protected Hard Drive that will not fix it. You will need to take the hard drive out of the laptop and extract the data using a Linux PC. You can get a free version of Linux from www.mindblowingidea.com/Ultumix
When logging in as root you won't have to worry about passwords for retrieving data. just use the password "root". You can access all the data on any device.
