Question about Panasonic NV-GS30 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Panasonic NV-GS30 firewire connection

I am unable to get my camcorder to connect to PC via newly installed Firewire connector. Tried Camcorder on friends PC same result. Is there any other configuration I have to do to the camcorder to get it to work. I have it powered on and set to VCR. I thought that the PC (using XP and Movie Maker) should detect the camcorder and instruct me to start. Any ideas. Or is just that the DV out of the camcorder broke.

Re: Panasonic NV-GS30 firewire connection

You must a software that will make easy for you to capture like Adobe Premier or some other application that is applicable for firewire or IEE1394.

Panasonic nv gs30 can support mac

Connect the camera to a Mac and open iMovie then capture.
You will need a 4 to 6 pin firewire cable.
Note: Some Macs have a nine pin socket and some base models have NO firewire socket.

What leads do I need to connect my Panasonic NV-GS30

There is an optional cable available for your camera called the VW-CD1E that will make use of the firewire (DV) port on your camera. You will also need to have some sort of a video capture program like Adobe Premiere so that you can download the video from your camera and then edit or display it. You should be able to order the cable from any Panasonic retailer. The better electronic / video stores will probably have it in stock.

Connect to Pc

You will need a firewire cable.
It has 2 different connectors on it. On small 6 pin plug for the camera end, and a larger (almost like a USB but with tapers at one end and slightly thicker) plug at the other.
Your computer will also need to have firewire either built onboard, or via an addin card that you can purchase at any PC shop.
The connector for the camera side plugs into the side of the camera near the battery.
Hope that helps =)

Camcorders problems

It seems you've tried some of the steps I would suggest already. However, to avoid any confusion I'll mention them anyway:

-When you connect a camcorder using DV cables, you have to use the playback mode rather than the PC Connect mode. The firewire connection is a p2p interface for streaming.

-The camcorder sometimes does not show up under "My Computer" when using DV connections as no removable drive needs to be installed. In this case, the camcorder may still be recognized and you should use the "capture" feature of whichever software you prefer.

-Most camcorders require that the AC adapter cable be used during capture operations for various reasons. If you are not connected to AC power, this could halt some functionality.

-Generally camcorders require a cable and IEEE1394 card that are OHCI compliant. Very rare you would find any that aren't, but it may be worth checking into if you're still having issues.

-Obviously, as you've mentioned, checking the device manager and BIOS configurations to ensure your hardware is operating properly was a good call.

I seem unable to connect my Panasonic NV GS30 via firewire tried 2 cables and 2 computers windows does not see camera like it used to. Only other fault that has appeared is jitter on viewfinder display.

Hello, and maybe this can help! Sense your viewfinder has jittered, your computer has reconized it. However, your software that you are using on the computer may be corrupt. i suggest that you insert the cd and instead of removing it, click repair. If this does not work, try checking the cable and make sure that it has a tight connection. One question. Did you pc make the standard beep noise when you plugged it in??? if not, then it is your computers. most likely, it is your camera or your software.
