Dell Lattitue C400 keyboard partially not responding

I own a Dell Lattitude C400 laptop; the keyboard keys 2,w,s,x are not responding.
I have replaced the keyboard, re-flash the bios (12) and watched bios reload the keyboard controller .. did not resolved issue.
The last time the whole mother board ahd to be replaced, is there a go around.
My guess is it's either the whole keyboard controller is bad and not just the just the letter 2,w,s,x are bad consistenly over time.
Is there another eay to reflash the skyboard controller?

Comment by Tomas090, posted on Dec 18, 2007 I had the same exact problem, Open Office was causing some weird conflict Try restoring to a time before you installed any software, makes no sense but that is what caused/cured my problem

BTW, do you get atone when you press those keys?

If you have replaced the keyboard and still the issue is there, then you are right. The controller is shot. You need to replace the motherboard again for this type of issue.

My dell latitude c400 will not hook to a wireless connection it says make sure you wireless switch is on, says no wireless connections in range and im sitting right to my router, what am i doing wrong?

Look for a little wireless icon in purple on the keyboard in the F keys up top. Example F9.

You hold down the Fn on the bottom of your keyboard and at the same time press the (example F9) to enable wireless.

It varies by model and I don't know which F key it is on the c400. You should be able to tell.

1. check the driver, reinstall & try.
2. check with a external key board. if working fine then ur motherboard is OK.
3. open the keyboard & clean the dust in the keyboard cables and motherboard connector.
4. if still not working ur keyboard might need replacement. check for any liquid spell on keyboard.
5. for replacement contact DELL customer support.

I have a Dell C400. All of a sudden it won't boot. Can't even access BIOS. Display has nothing. Battery light keeps flashing from green to amber.

Remove the battery and the hard drive , use the charger and try to boot to BIOS. If it fails then the laptop is dead.

Keyboard problem in Dell Latitude PPX C Family

Actually this is a common problem with these Dell's. I have never found a cure for it other than replacing the keyboard. Fortunally they are not expensive, you can usually get one off of eBay for around $20 or so.

Hope this helps

Key pad

If you can not use your Ctrl, alt delete keeys before the operating system loaads, then your motherboard is the problem. Replace the mainboard, and this issue will go away. Many of these units have this same issue. However, if you can use them before the operating system loads, then reload your os or attempt to repair it using your installation cd. To use the keys before the os loads, right after the dell logo appears, immediatly hit crtl alt delete. and your system should respond. LePro DCSE

My whole keyboard not responding

Since this is a laptop, you might be having some trouble with the motherboard this time. Test the keyboard functionality first by doing F12 on the Dell splash screen. Then select boot to utility partition if you have the option. Select custom test among 4 diagnostic options. If the keyboard fails on the test, then you need to call up dell to have the motherboard replaced since the keyboard has been replaced.

I have one of these myself, love it. The other memory chip is under the keyboard. Remove the plastic strip that has the power button on it, and you'll see the four screws holding the keyboard. Once you get the keyboard off you'll see the other memory chip.
