Started with blue streaking and now there are tiny blue dots

I first noticed a bluish discoloration some months ago which got worse with time. Then the blue dots appeared. One at first, then two... now dozens. Otherwise the picture is fine. Very odd. Is this a problem I can fix myself? I have been very happy with the TV up to now.

    It's a Sony Grand WEGA KDF-50WE655 50 inch. If that is the problem, is it something I can fix myself or will it require an expert? I'm pretty handy and not generally itimidated, but I have no electronics training or eduction. I can follow directions... :-)

    give me the model number; you can google the model number---I suspect you have a bad optical light engine--very expensive if you do not have an extended warranty on this set.

Blue hue on left side and tiny blue dots on most of screen. The dots seem to dissapear and reappear if you look closely. I changed bulb about two months ago and it seemed to just get worse since then.
The blue hue on the side and dots are most likely a damaged (burnt light or optical light engine).

This is very common and you may want to contact Sony as there were programs for some models even if OUT OF WARRANTY.


The lamp in the set shines into a a L shaped engine with baffles and lens (red, green, and blue segments) and Blue is closest to the heat from the lamp and usually is the first place to get this type of damage.

I do not enjoy giving bad news but this is what I am sure is your problem.

Bright blue patch in center of screen.
The optical block is going bad. Contact Sony support and have your model and serial numbers handy. Sony sometimes warranties these even after the 1yr factory warranty.

It sound like the light engine is going out or already out. I would take it to a certified Hitachi dealer have them check it out then I would call Hitachi to have them fix it for free.

Blue Streak
I had the same problem w/ the same TV about 6 months ago. You need a new optical engine. Hopefully you are still under warranty. Once that was replaced, the tv looks great.

Kf-42610 blue hue and blue dots on screen
Hi Guys

The Blue dots or discolouration you are seeing is due too the Blue LCD screen having cracked from excessive heat. This normally happens when you have a power failure while the Television was on. This obviously because the Blue LCD sits next to the lamp - the main cause of heat. The correct part number on the 60" is A-1086-952-A. It is very, very ,expensive.
