I posted about my laptop and needing an hdd password. the expert said to go to the control panel. i CANT do that because it asks for ''main HDD PASSWORD'' before it even starts up!please help i bought this computer from a nice woman today for 600 dollars. i cant have just wasted that much money i need this laptop for college!!

Restart the computer and tap F2 key during POST to enter System Setup (BIOS). This should prompt for the Hard Drive (HDD) or BIOS password. Knowledge Base

While the computer is powering up keep tapping f2.

Turn it off. Press the power button again and keep hitting f2.

hard disk is a mechanical device
it has failed and prob need replaced

next time use an ssd and back up regularly

you may be able to recover your data using another pc
and software to recover data check out spotmau .com etc and discover your data
use it too patch the disk on slave issues too access it
then youll get most of the data back
hdd usually crashes on the windows stuff
and the user accounts you can access
win 7 allows you to take control on win xp and other win 7 accounts
if you have the passwords then even encrypted accounts on damaged hdd are available

on some notebooks if you hold shift control then zero it should resset the bios passwaord to get back in.. serch the del site for your model nad it should give you tips on how to do it .. but i know for toshiba that is works remember contol+ shift +zero should reset pw.

Try to get the error message and then look for the solution in this list of error messages here's the link http://tinyurl.com/ypnef9 if the HDD is curropted you cant save the data , might as well run some HDD diagnostics that was pre-installed in your system by accessing F12 or try to log on Safe mode

Hi, If you are talking about the Boot, HDD, Bios password, then the only one way to recover it is to implement a chip on the systemboard to shorcut the protection or to contact Lenovo for a systemboard replacement. 10gb of RAM is not enough for Windows XP. You need to upgrade your HDD to about atleast 40 GB HDD Minimal... I'd recommend a new PC if you can get that to work out, but I understand the tuff economical times..
