Question about Hitachi 43FDX15B 43" Rear Projection Television
My unit is 5 years old and is kept on a UPS at all times.
This started a few days ago:
TV turns on fine, works for a few minutes with no picture or sound problems and then it clicks off but the power button is stays lit.
After a few minutes "off" it turns itself back "on" - actually recycles like something is overheating. Sometimes it will do this for a half hour or so and then stay on for a long time (hours), other times it just never finds that long spell and recycles every minute or so. During all of this the picture quality and sound are normally just fine.
Today, as I was researching this problem on this site the blasted thing also started collapsing the picture from the top and bottom with the top and bottom being slightly rounded in the middle (like an oval) with a red border on the top and bottom left sides and a blue border on the top and bottom right side. Sometimes during this recycle process the picture is perfectly normal while other times its distorted.
I took off the screen back (part with the holes in it) and could see nothing obviously wrong other than it was pretty dusty. No burnt smells or blackened areas where something would have died.
Any suggestions before I have rioting among my teenagers?
Phil, from your description it sounds like your convergence IC`s are about to fail, the intermittent off/on cycle is because as they heat up there drawing too much current, the bowed collapse tells me it`s the vertical convergence IC that`s the culprit. You need to get a tech out asap to fix this or they could short and take out the power supply as well and that`s just mooore money to fix it, hope this answers your question, BMW Rider
