This happens to me sometimes, but I think it's just "wind" getting to the earpiece... not sure though.

Almost all of moto bluetooth headset get this problem. i think H680 is much better that HS850 or H700. i'm using RAZR2 V8 and almost all BT headset have static problem. So i end up with korean's and french's BT headset which have much lower static.

Sound problems

I have had the identical problem from the beginning. It happens in humid weather. Unplug the set while it's on, wait a second, plug it back in, and turn it on. Sound should be fine.

Motorola HS850 Headset gone silent

I bought a new HS850 and guess what, I got this hearing problem on the very first day ...phew ! I did the pairing with my Motorola A1200 phone and it worked for once, even the sound was coming in the earpiece and then I put it to charge for the first time and once done, I again started it up and it got connected with the phone and after that there was no sound in the ear piece. I was going nuts....about what could be the problem.

So i decided to delete the earlier paired profile from my phone and do the pairing again and guess what...It Worked....:) So you can try that out too....

The volume button(decrease) does not work

If the button is "detached" as you say then its broken. If the headset is still under warrentee you can get a new one if not you'll need to buy one. Not fixable.

here is the link to the user manual; Check pages 27 and 28, describes all the possible on/off configurations for the signal light. during a call, you can turn it off by pressing volume up and volume down at the same time. If there is no activity on your phone for 5 minutes, it should turn off. What phone are you pairing the headset with? This link gives some more simplified instructions; If you need the signal light permanently off, then it is not possible without modifying the headset - the easiest permanent way would be to paint over the signal light with a small brush and an appropriate dark coloured enamel paint. It may need 2 or 3 coats to completely block the light. This may possibly void the warranty. You could do the same thing with a piece of black pvc electrical tape cut to fit the light, if you want the option to change back later (probably also need redoing every couple of months). The warranty would not be affected with this method. Another possibility would be to open the unit up, and see where the signal light source LED is situated - don't remove it or disconnect it, but if the legs are long enough, you may be able to gently bend the LED out of the way of the little window to the outside. This would certainly void the warranty. Hope this helps, please ask again if you need more info :)
