I have a 2000 honda shadow 750 with 30000 miles, it has a noise in the front head of the engine when its hot and the engine is reved up. i set the valves and looked at the timing chain tensioner when i was in there, it looked ok but i still have a noise.it sounds like its on the right side of the engine (opposite the timing chain). i was told maybe wrist pin???? i have the bike running right now, i think the noise (rattle)has slowly got worse over the summer. any ideas would be appreciated, thanks, mark

is that common for these bikes? it just doesn't seem to have enough miles on it for bearings to be out of it. is there anything else in the top that could make noise? is there somthing like valve guides or somthing?? it sounds just like a valve noise, but only when hot. i had a bike mechanic listen to it before i set the valves, he figured that was what it was. thanks mark

If it's a wrist pin or a rod bearing you are taking a chance on heavy damage if you run it until something breaks. Maybe you could get a Motorcycle Mechanic to listen to it and give you an opinion. I think the odds would favor a rod bearing.

I am considering buying a Honda 750 Shadow Aero with 18,000 miles. My wife looked at it today and said she thought she heard a knocking sound in the engine. It runs fine and because of hearing problems,...

Knocks, Rattles, Whining, Clunks, and Grinding noises coming from the engine are not good signs.

Light Tapping noise could be a few things.

A dirty oil filter will cause the top end to make tapping sound until the oil warms up and, then the noise goes away, that might be why you didn't hear it, but she did at first.

If the valves/rockers continue to make noise, it probably just needs the valve clearance checked & adjusted. If they continue to make noise after this, then its a sign of wear to one or more of the valve componets.(rockers worn, lifters worn etc)

With only 18000 miles, its probably just dirty oil filter.

Front brake locks up when bike gets hot usually within first 10 miles stop and bleed it and it is ok for a few hours.

Sounds like the return orifice in your master cylinder is plugged up. You should rebuild the master cylinder paying close attention to the small return hole in the master cylinder.

Water from exhaust

some water is normal but if you are loosing coolant, running hot or if water from exhaust smells like antifreeze you have a problem (head gasket or cracked head)
